VW may produce 700,000 electric vehicles in Germany by 2030
- With production of electric ID3 and ID4 now at mid-series level (54,695 units having been sold in Europe in the first half of 2021, equivalent to 100,000 over the whole of this year), the Volkswagen group has announced that it will gradually install a production capacity of 700,000 electric vehicles in Germany by 2030, spread into five plants.
- The Zwickau plant already has a capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year, with a saturation scheduled for 2023 or 2024. In addition to the ID3 and ID4, this plant also assembles the Audi Q4 E- Tron.
- Part of the ID3s are also assembled at the Dresden plant and part of the ID4s will soon be assembled at the Emden plant, where Volkswagen Passat models have been produced for many years and which will be transferred to the Czech plant in Kvasiny in 2022-2023. The Emden plant will also produce the future ID5. The capacity of this plant should ultimately represent 200,000 electric vehicles per year (the ID6 is a priori intended exclusively for China and will be produced locally).
- In addition, there is the Hanover plant, which will host the production of the electric versions of the new Kombi and the new Transporter in 2022. This plant should ultimately represent a capacity of 100,000 units per year. Finally, there is the Wolfsburg plant, which will be the last to switch to the production of electric vehicles and which will eventually have 150,000 electric vehicles per year. This growth will come at the expense of the Golf, which should see its production volume decrease by 2030. As stated by the management of the company, the history of Volkswagen can be summed up in three stages: the Beetle, then the Golf and today the ID range.

Inovev forecasts 100,000 units per year of new Ford Maverick pickup

Inovev forecasts 100,000 units per year of new Ford Maverick pickup
- Ford has just unveiled a new compact-sized pickup, which will be the carmaker's third pickup, shorter by 80 centimetres than the F-Series and 30 centimetres than the Ranger. The Maverick (which takes the name of older Ford models) is more in the Hyundai Santa Cruz market in terms of dimensions, at 5.00 m long.
- Unlike all larger pickups, the Maverick is built on a monocoque structure, instead of a ladder frame, an older design taken from the heavy-duty class. It is indeed based on the Ford Bronco.
- The Ford Maverick will only be available as a four-door cab, there will be no two-door cab like most pickups. The big thing about the Maverick is that it comes standard with a 2.5-liter hybrid gasoline engine producing 190 hp. This version is front-wheel drive and not all-wheel drive. The most powerful version, equipped with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine developing 250 hp, will be all-wheel drive.
- Ford, which has eliminated the production of all its sedans on the North American, is therefore now focusing on the SUV and pick-up segment. Creating a third category of targeted “entry-level” pickup is not a success guaranty, as compact pickups have never seen long-term success in North America. Inovev therefore forecasts a volume of 100,000 sales per year of the new Ford Maverick, a figure significantly lower than those recorded by the F-Series and Ranger.
- The Ford Maverick will be produced at the Mexican Hermosillo plant, alongside the Ford Bronco and Mustang Mach E.

Inovev forecasts 25,000 units per year of the new Cupra Born
- 说明
Inovev forecasts 25,000 units per year of the new Cupra Born
- The Volkswagen group has decided to change the positioning of the Seat El Born unveiled last year, by modifying its exterior design and above all by changing its brand and name. This model will be integrated within the Cupra brand and its name will be Born and no longer El Born, which changes its positioning since the Cupra Born will become a sportiest version of the Volkswagen ID3, with which it shares the same MEB platform. The Cubra Born will therefore no longer be an entry-level version of the ID3.
- Consequently, the Cupra Born will suffer less from a frontal competition with the ID3 as it will compete on another market, not really explored until now (the segment of EV sports), and its distribution could be more important than what it could have been under the Seat brand. Inovev forecasts 25,000 sales per year of Cupra Born, while its forecast for the Seat El Born did not exceed 15,000 units per year.
- The Cupra Born is 6 centimetres longer than the Volkswagen ID3 and 2 centimetres lower. The front, roof and tailgate are different. It is expected to be produced at the Zwickau (Germany) plant alongside the Volkswagen ID3 and ID4, although a number of Volkswagen ID3s are now being produced at the Dresden (Germany) plant to increase the Volkswagen Group's European production capacity for electric vehicles.
- The engines of the Cupra Born (110 kW and 150 kW) are the one also used by the ID3, but an additional version (170 kW) is added specifically for this model. There are three battery capacities (45 kWh, 58 kWh, 77 kWh) which in the best case allow a range of 540 kilometres according to the WLTP cycle.

Plug-in vehicles (BEV + PHEV) sales: Top 15 by brand
- 说明
Plug-in vehicles (BEV + PHEV) sales: Top 15 by brand
- Now that there is enough electrified vehicles sales historic, we are able to analyse the evolution of plug-in vehicles (BEV + PHEV), sales by brand. Inovev has compiled the figures of the top 15 leading brands in this category of vehicles which is becoming increasingly popular in the global market. Inovev took the year 2015 as the basis for the calculations. What do we see?
- The American brand Tesla managed to outrun all its rival brands after the launch of the Model 3. In 2020, Tesla sold nearly 500,000 electric cars worldwide. The Chinese brand BYD, leader in this electric market before 2018, has not grown since 2019 and is even declining in 2020, due to strong competition (notably Tesla). Volkswagen became in 2020, the second leading brand in the BEV+PHEV market, thanks to the success of its ID3 and ID4. It only represents half of Tesla's sales in 2020, but the many future launches planned by the German brand should allow VW to close the gap with Tesla. The GM-Wuling brand is benefiting from the success of its recent small city car HongGuang. The Premium BMW and Mercedes brands are benefiting from the generalization of PHEV engines on their models, overtaking Renault, which held the third place in this market between 2016 and 2018 (this brand is seventh in 2020).
- In the first 4 months of 2021, GM-Wuling takes the second place while BYD falls to fifth place. Renault suffered a sharp fall, dropping from seventh to thirteenth place in 2021. Even the Peugeot brand passed Renault in 2021, thanks to its e-208, e-2008, 3008 PHEV and 508 PHEV. BMW and Mercedes maintain their positions. Nissan has disappeared from the top 15.
