Inovev forecasts production of 300,000 Nissan Altima per year
- After the recent renewal of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the third-best-selling Japanese sedan in the US’ D / E segment, the Nissan Altima, is in turn completely renewed. This sixth generation was introduced at the 2018 New York Auto Show and will only be sold in the North American market.
- The Nissan Altima accounted for 18% of sales of the brand in the United States last year, while at end of life. It could account for up to 20% of the brand's sales in 2019, even if the Rogue SUV (X-Trail in Europe) will continue to outstrip it (28% of sales in 2017).
- The new Altima is longer (+ 2.5cm), wider (+ 2.3cm) and lower (-2.7cm). The wheelbase is also extended by 4.8cm. For the first time, the Altima will be available in four-wheel drive.
- The engines announced are: a 4-cylinder gasoline engine of 2.5 liters developing 188hp and a 4-cylinder gasoline turbo 2.0 liters developing 248hp (which replaces the old 3.5-liter V6).
- The new Nissan Altima will be produced as previously on the US site of Canton (Ohio). Given the declining influence of sedans on the US market, Inovev expects production of 300,000 units per year, compared to 262,000 in 2017 and 328,000 in 2016.

- 说明
Top-selling model in the USA in 2017 remains the Ford F-Series
- Of a total of 17.24 million new vehicles sold in the United States in 2017, the Ford F Series pickup remained the best-selling model (897,000 units, + 9.3%) in front of its two direct competitors, the Chevrolet Silverado (586,000 units, + 1.9%) and the Dodge Ram (501,000 units, + 2.3%), both of which will be renewed in 2018.
- Behind these three big pick-up trucks, which have taken the first three places for decades, we can see two SUVs that are growing strongly, the Toyota RAV4 (408,000 units, + 15.7%) and the Nissan Rogue (403,000 units, + 22.3%).
- The Toyota Camry, the first sedan in the rankings, is only sixth overall. It will be renewed in 2018, as will its two competitors, the Honda Accord (ninth) and the Nissan Altima (fourteenth).
- In the fifteen best-selling vehicles on the US market in 2017, there are 3 Ford, 2 Chevrolet, 1 Dodge, 1 Jeep or 7 American brand models, and 3 Toyota, 3 Honda, 2 Nissan or 8 models of Japanese brands.
- Japanese brands have 39% of the US market in 2017, almost as much as GM, Ford and Chrysler combined (44%). Korean and European brands are tied at 8% of the market.
- Sedans account for only 35% of the US market, while SUVs reach 42%. The pickups do not exceed 16% (despite the good scores of Ford F Series, Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram) and vans (MPV and vans) are at 7%.

Best selling model in Japan in 2017 is the Honda N BOX
- 说明
Best selling model in Japan in 2017 is the Honda N BOX
- Of a total of 4.39 million new passenger cars sold in Japan in 2017, the Honda N BOX minivan became the best-selling model (218,000 units), ahead of the Toyota Prius (143,000 units) which was the market leader in 2016. The Prius lost 78,000 sales, which were mainly transferred to the recent Toyota CHR, a compact SUV with the same hybrid engine as the Prius (a 1.8 petrol and an electric motor). The CHR gained 112,000 sales in 2017 compared to 2016. It is now in eighth position, while it was virtually absent in 2016.
- Of the fifteen most sold cars in Japan in 2017, there are four Toyota, three Daihatsu, three Honda, three Suzuki and two Nissan. Daihatsu and Suzuki remain the midget specialists (K-cars), which are a sort of A-segment models. Of the fifteen most sold cars in Japan in 2017, there are eight midgets. Midgets accounted for 34% of the Japanese market in 2017, up from 33% in 2016. Sedans account for 33% of the Japanese market and minivans 20%.
- The Toyota Corolla (C segment sedan) which is one of the world's best-selling cars (975,000 sales) is only twentieth in the Japanese market, Japanese customers favoring midgets and hybrid cars.
- SUVs still fail to penetrate the Japanese market, with a share of 13% in 2017 (11% in 2016), of which 2.5% for the CHR. In Europe, SUVs are at 30% of the market, in China 40%, in the USA 42%.

Best-selling model in China in 2017 remains the Wuling Hongguang
- 说明
Best-selling model in China in 2017 remains the Wuling Hongguang
- Of a total of 24.7 million new passenger cars sold in China in 2017, the WulingHongguang minivan (counted in the GM group) remains the best-selling model, with 537,000 units, nonetheless down 113,000 units compared to 2016 (a decrease of 17.4%). Indeed, minivans are decreasing year after year in the Chinese market, in the face of strong growth in sales of SUV, and GM Wuling sells almost only minivans. The contrast with Baojun (another Chinese subsidiary of GM) is striking as Baojun sold 364,000 Type 510 SUV in 2017 coming from 0 in 2016 (this model is in 6th place in 2017). As a result, it is uncertain that Wuling Hongguangwill remain China's sales leader in 2018.
- Of all the passenger cars sold in China in 2017, 47% are sedans (compared to 49% in 2016), 40% are SUVs (compared to 36% in 2016), 8% are MPV and vans (compared to 10% in 2016) and 5% are minivans (compared to 5% in 2016). SUVs are taking market share from sedans and vans but not from minivans.
- Independent Chinese automakers dominate the SUV and minivans category, but are largely in the minority in the sedan category. They have 36% of the Chinese VP market as a whole. Imports accounted for 1.07 million passenger cars in 2017 (compared with 1.1 million in 2016). The first importers remain BMW (183,000 units), Mercedes (144,000 units) and Lexus (108,000 units).

GM could abandon its Korean subsidiary
- 说明
GM could abandon its Korean subsidiary
- Since the production peak (960,000 units) reached in 2007, just before the financial crisis of 2008-2009, the Korean subsidiary of the American group General Motors (ex-Daewoo) has steadily accumulated difficulties, particularly with the end of the Chevrolet brand in Europe. Most Chevrolet models marketed in Europe were made in Korea. This shortfall amounts to 200,000 units a year.
- The halt of GM Korea's CKD exports and production to Russia and the former republics of the Soviet Union, to Iran and even to Southeast Asia represent another shortfall of 200,000 units per year.
- The sale of the Opel / Vauxhall brands to PSA in 2017 directly threatens the manufacture in Korea of Opel Mokka and Opel Karl, which remain the latest models produced by GM Korea for the European market. Already, the Opel Antara was stopped in 2016, giving way to the Opel Grandland made in France. This loss of earnings due to the sale of Opel / Vauxhall will amount to 150,000 units per year, while the volume of production is already only 500,000 units in 2017, the lowest figure recorded since 2005. The only salvation for GM Korea is the Korean car market. But even in this market its sales are down-only 125,000 units in 2017, a market share of 7% compared to 8% in 2012 and 9% in 2007. The future of GM Korea therefore seems even more uncertain today than two years ago.
