BYD announces expansion in Europe with three new models: Tang, Yuan (Atto3) and Han
The Chinese manufacturer BYD, which specializes in the production and marketing of electric and rechargeable hybrid vehicles (it was initially a battery manufacturer) has gradually become the third independent Chinese manufacturer, behind Geely and Changan, with 986,884 vehicles produced on the first eight months of 2022, which augurs for a production volume of 1.5 million units for the whole year. BYD has also become the world's second largest manufacturer of 100% electric vehicles (BEV) in the world behind Tesla and the world's leading manufacturer of rechargeable hybrid vehicles (PHEV). Still practically absent from the European market in the field of light automotive vehicles (BYD currently only sells light vehicles in Norway, whereas it already sells buses in several European countries), BYD has decided to market its models in Europe from the fall of 2022, imitating a dozen Chinese manufacturers already present on this market, the most important of which is MG (subsidiary of the SAIC group). Three 100% electric models made in China are already scheduled:
1. The Tang, which is a large SUV 4.87 m long (E segment) which allows a range of 400 km according to the WLTP cycle thanks to an 86 kWh battery. This model has already sold more than 2,000 units in Norway over the past year.
2. The second model is the Yuan (renamed Atto 3 in Europe), a 4.46 m compact SUV (C segment) equipped with a 60 kWh battery allowing a range of 400 km according to the WLTP cycle, made possible by due to a lower weight than the Tang.
3. The third model is the 4.96 m long Han sedan (E segment) allowing a range of 500 km according to the WLTP cycle.

In 2021, the Tang was produced at the Xian site (in Shanxi) at 55,375 units, the Yuan at 41,678 units and the Han at 87,784 units. These models represent only a small part of BYD's production in 2021 (25% of the brand's total volume).
