Peugeot and Citroën cancel their projects in the A-segment market
The Stellantis group has decided to cancel plans for the future Peugeot and Citroën A-segment models, which were to replace the Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1, whose production was halted last summer at the Czech plant in Kolin.
The models planned for 2025, coded P44 for the Peugeot and CJ4 for the Citroën, were supposed to be small SUVs of 4.15 m long representing the new entry level of the two brands. These vehicles were intended to be marketed with an electric powertrain. At Peugeot, for example, the future e-1008 would have been cheaper than an e-2008 or an e-208.
Because these two models were already in preparation, they took over an existing platform, the “low cost” CMP of the Citroën C3 produced in India from 2021 and adapted to this market, and not the future “Small” platform, not yet in production. These future small models were planned to be offered in emerging markets in South America, in particular with thermal engines (gasoline).
For cost reasons, but also because since the start of the CJ4-P44 project (May 2019) the Stellantis group was created and gave priority to Fiat and Citroën to invest in emerging markets, the future small projects have been purely cancelled. The Stellantis group continues despite everything in the A-segment, with the Fiat brand and the e-500, which could be the only one to be positioned at the long term in the A-segment within the group, since the replacement of the Panda will be repositioned on the B-segment.

Peugeot wants to go all-electric in 2030 in Europe
The Stellantis group announced during the year that its brands would gradually switch to battery electric technology in terms of new cars, the group's brands sold in Europe being the first to switch to all-electric, the last being the brands marketed in North America, like Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram.
Here is the summary of the switch to all electric at Stellantis: Abarthin 2024, DS in 2024, Maserati in 2025, Lancia in 2026, Alfa-Romeo in 2027, Opel in 2028 and Fiat in 2030.
There was still an imprecision concerning Peugeot and Citroën. Today, this imprecision is clarified because the Stellantis group has just announced that the Peugeot brand will switch to all-electric in 2030 in Europe. Peugeot, however, plans to maintain a thermal offer for markets outside Europe.
The Peugeot range in Europe, now consists of the 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 508, 5008 which make up the line-up of passenger cars, as the 108 was discontinued last summer. In addition, a new model named 4008 is scheduled for 2022. It is therefore a minimum of seven models that will have to switch from thermal motorisations to electric motors by 2030. The future generation of the 3008 and 5008 scheduled for 2023 will continue to be marketed in thermal versions until 2030 but the next generation will necessarily be battery electric. The future generation of the 308 and 508 will also be battery electric, just like the future generation of the 208 and 2008 scheduled for 2026.

Stellantis may transfer the Peugeot 208 production to Morocco and Spain
An (unofficial) information recently released in the press indicated that the Stellantis group was going to make industrial changes at the mid-life time of the Peugeot 208 scheduled for 2023 (the next generation being scheduled for 2026).
In 2023 therefore, production of the facelifted Peugeot 208 may be entirely made at the Moroccan site in Kenitra, except for the battery electric versions (e-208) which will be assembled at the Spanish plant of Zaragoza, alongside the Opel e- Corsa. We will therefore see a concentration of two BEVs on a single plant at Stellantis in 2023, but the e-2008, e-C4, e-Mokka will continue to be produced on specific production sites.
At the same time, the capacity available in Trnava (Slovakia) following the Peugeot 208 transfer to Morocco will allow the arrival in 2023 of the new generation of the Citroën C3 (CC21) but above all the arrival in 2024 of the new generations of the Citroën C3 Aircross (CC24) and Opel Crossland (OV24) whose current generations are produced in Zaragoza, alongside the Opel Corsa.
The two compact SUVs C3 Aircross and Crossland will take the opportunity to end the use of the PF1 platform and be equipped with the CMP1 platform, like the 2023 C3, a platform that the Peugeot 208 has been using since 2019.
These production transfers will not be temporary as the future generation of the Peugeot 208 (P31) scheduled for 2026 will be produced at the Zaragoza site, alongside the future Opel Corsa (OV31) also scheduled for 2026, as well as at the Kenitra site. These two models will be based on the new STLA Small platform.

Inovev forecasts 35,000 units per year of the new Fiat Scudo / Ulysse
Following the merger of PSA with FCA, it was announced that the Fiat light utility vehicles of the N1-2 segment would take over the body and platform of the Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy, and no longer the body of the Renault Trafic and Nissan NV300. This decision is now effective with the launch of the new Fiat Scudo (light utility vehicle) and Ulysse (passenger car version of the light utility vehicle). The names follow those that were used in the late 1990s until the early 2010s, at a time when Fiat was already collaborating with PSA on utility vehicles and MPVs.
The new generation of the Fiat Scudo will therefore replace the Fiat Talento (based on Renault) from the beginning of 2022, while the Fiat Ulysse will play the role of a large minivan (like the first generation Fiat Ulysse), in direct competition with the Peugeot Traveler (based on the Expert), Citroën Space tourer (based on the Jumpy) and Opel Zafira Life (based on the Vivaro).
The Fiat Scudo and Ulysse will use the engines already mounted under the hood of the Expert, Jumpy and Vivaro, meaning the 2.0 HDI diesel (developed originally by PSA), available in 120 hp, 145 hp and 180 hp, as well as the 136 hp electric motor(with a battery pack of 50 kWh or 75 kWh). A hydrogen fuel cell version is planned later, probably in 2025. This engine will equip at the same time the Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy and Opel Vivaro.
As for the other three models of the Stellantis group, the Fiat Scudo and Ulysse will be assembled at the French plant of Valenciennes. Inovev forecasts a production of 35,000 units per year for the two new models Fiat Scudo and Ulysse.

Inovev plans 100,000 units of the new Peugeot 408
Peugeot (a subsidiary of the Stellantis group) has just unveiled its new 408 saloon (code P54), which, as its name suggests, fits between the 308 (segment C) and the 508 (segment D). We can therefore say that the 408 is located between segment C and segment D, with a length of 4.69 m (6 cm less than a 508 and 32 cm more than a 308), a width of 1 .86 m and a height of 1.48 m.
Its modern design brings it closer to the Citroën C5X and could quickly outmode the 508. Sold in Europe and China, like the C5X, it will be produced both in Europe and China, unlike the C5X which is only produced in in China.
In China, the 408 will also be called 408X because there is already a very recent 408 on this market (it is a 308 notchback).
The Peugeot 408 announces a Cd of 0.28, much better than that of the 3008 and 5008 SUVs. Compared to the 308 with which it shares the EMP2 platform, the 408 is larger inside because it benefits from the elongated from the 308 SW station wagon.
Its engines ignore the diesel, since they consist of a 3-cylinder 1.2 petrol engine with 130 hp and a 1.6 petrol rechargeable hybrid with 180 hp or 225 hp, although rechargeable hybrid engines will have to be prohibited from the sale from 2035. A 100% electric version is planned for 2023, like the 308 with which it will share the engine.
The Peugeot 408 by its positioning does not really have a rival, except perhaps the Citroën C5X of segment D, the DS4 of segment C or the Renault Arkana of segment C. The Peugeot 408 will be produced on the French site of Mulhouse and on the Chinese site in Chengdu (Dongfeng) at the rate of 100,000 units in total, including 75,000 in France and 25,000 in China.
