Japan Mobility Show 2025: Suzuki (1/2)
- Suzuki will present its Vision e-Sky concept, which is almost ready for series production, at JMS 2025. This fully electric vehicle is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2026 and will have a range of over 270 km. The concept is 3.395 meters long, 1.475 meters wide, and 1.625 meters high. It is therefore a fully electric Kei car. As these cars currently only represent a small market, both the opportunities and risks are considerable. It appears that Suzuki is gearing its Kei cars towards electric power, as its second concept is also a BEV Kei car.
- The second concept car announced by Suzuki will also be fully electric: a small, fully electric mini commercial vehicle or van, whose electrical system was developed by Suzuki in collaboration with Toyota and Daihatsu. The battery is not only designed to enable a range of 200 km, but also to power various possible uses, e.g., as a breakdown service or ambulance. However, in its current phase, it is still very compact, with a length of 3.395 meters, a width of 1.475 meters, and a height of 1.89 meters. Unfortunately, Suzuki has not provided any information on its weight.
- Already available on the Japanese market since April 3, Suzuki will exhibit its new Jimny Nomade at JMS 2025 to further promote it. In India, it is offered as the Jimny Alpha. In Europe, the original Jimny has not been officially available since 2020, but an Italian importer now appears to be offering this new version. The Jimny Nomade has a wheelbase that is 34 cm longer than the original, giving it a length of almost 4 meters. From 2014 to 2024, around 580,000 Jimnys (all versions) were built. In Europe, this model sold around 12,400 units during the same period. Inovev forecasts a production of 100.000 units per year.

- Subaru has announced two concept cars under its sporty STI label for the Japan Mobility Show 2025 and released two teaser images that don't reveal too much yet.
- The fully electric Performance-E STI concept looks sleek, fast, and aggressive in the teaser image. The design has many edges and the headlights are quite narrow. It could be heading in the direction of a modern to super sports car.
- The Performance-B STI concept is said to be equipped with a combustion engine and symmetrical all-wheel drive, which is surprising, as the STI label was actually intended to be transformed exclusively for electric vehicles. This could indicate a change in strategy. The teaser image suggests an SUV or hatchback body, as it looks more muscular and powerful thanks to its fenders. The air scoop and side vents could be an indication of a WRX base and underline the sporty character.

Japan Mobility Show 2025: Nissan (1/2)
- Ahead of the JMS, Nissan has released a teaser image of the new Elgrand. It will be the fourth generation of this large minivan, which will be marketed exclusively in Japan. According to the carmaker, it will be equipped with a hybrid engine. Nissan produced around 98,700 units at its Shatai plant in Japan between 2014 and 2024, but production has been declining since 2018.
- The Nissan Leaf, a pioneering electric vehicle and the world's best-selling BEV until Tesla came along, is entering its third generation this year. Although it was unveiled in June 2025 and has been on sale in the US since this fall, Nissan is exhibiting the Leaf at the JMS to promote its European launch in early 2026. It has a length of 4.35 meters, a width of 1.81 meters, and a height of 1.55 meters, as well as an unladen weight of up to 1.9 tons. This makes it 14 cm shorter, but 2 cm wider and 1 cm higher, and above all 297 kg heavier than its predecessor. Two basic models are available. The basic version combines a 52 kWh battery with an electric motor that delivers 130 kW (177 hp). The ranges according to the WLTP cycle are stated as up to 436 and 604 km, respectively. Production will be in Sunderland (UK) and Tochigi (Japan). Together, these two plants produced around 474,500 of these models between 2014 and 2024. If we include the Smyrna plant (USA), production of the Nissan Leaf reached around 650,600 for this period. In Europe, only around 8,200 Leafs were sold between 2014 and 2024. Inovev forecasts a production of 50.000 per year.
- Nissan has announced a facelift for the Aryia, which was unveiled in 2020, for JMS 2025. This new version is expected to be available in 2026 and will come with a choice of two batteries, a 63 kWh and an 87 kWh. In Europe, the Aryia was not a success so far, with sales of less than 1,400 units from 2022 to September 2025. From 2021 to 2024, around 118,400 models were produced at the Tochigi plant in Japan. Nissan hopes to revive the model with the facelift.
- The joint venture between Nissan and Chinese carmaker Dongfeng unveiled the N7 in April 2025, the first of nine planned NEVs. This sedan is tailored to the Chinese market and is therefore only available there. There are two batteries to choose from, 58kWh or 73kWh, and it has a maximum cruising range of 635km according to the CLTC cycle. In the first few months after launch, the JV confirmed 17,000 orders. The presentation at the JMS is likely to serve only as a showcase for the international strategy.

- Even before its launch this year, Nissan will unveil the sixth generation of the new Micra at JMS 2025. This B-segment SUV will now be fully electric with a choice of two batteries: one with a capacity of 40 kWh, 90 kW of power, and a range of up to 308 km, or one with a capacity of 52 kWh, 110 kW of power, and a range of up to 408 km. The standard version of the vehicle weighs 1.4 tons; with the larger battery, it weighs 1.52 tons. It is expected to be less than 4 meters long and less than 1.8 meters wide. The new Micra will most likely be produced in Douai (France), as it is intended for the European market. Inovev forecasts a production of 20.000 units per year.
- Nissan will release a special version of the Xtrail, known as the Rogue in the US. This version, called the Rock Creek Edition, will feature a number of extras and design elements that will make it even more suitable for off-road use and give it a more rugged look. It is not known whether the Rock Creek Edition will be marketed outside the US, but this is unlikely.
- Since the seventh generation of the Patrol was launched last year, the SUV to be exhibited at JMS 2025 is no longer a real novelty. As this SUV, equipped with a V6 twin-turbo engine, is intended exclusively for the Middle East and is tailored to the needs and tastes of customers there, this is likely to be a presentation of Nissan's international strategy.
- The Nissan Kei Car Roox, which will also be sold by Mitsubishi under the name eK Space in the 2025 generation, is approximately 3.4 meters long and 1.47 meters wide and will be equipped with a gasoline engine. In 2024, around 70,700 eK Space/Roox vehicles from the previous generation were sold in Japan. The Roox is expected to differ from the eK Space in that it may will feature an infotainment system that is unusual for kei cars.
- Nissan has announced that it will exhibit the Nissan Fairlady Z, without mentioning any changes to the 2021 model. Perhaps news will be announced during the show, or perhaps it is simply an eye-catcher.
