The market share of BEVs and PHEVs in the various European countries
- Sales of electric and plug-in hybrid cars represented 9% of the European market over the first nine months of 2020, compared to 3.5% in 2019 and 2.5% in 2018.
- But the distribution of sales is very different from country to country. Already, the countries of Eastern Europe have bought little of this type of vehicle since their market share does not exceed 2%. In Western European countries, it is close to 10% (9.7%).
- The European countries which hold the largest market share of electric and plug-in hybrid cars are Norway with a record share of 70.8%, Sweden with a share of 27.9%, Finland with a share of 16.6 %, the Netherlands with a share of 15.8% and Denmark with a share of 13.0%. The Scandinavian countries are therefore the most demanding of this type of vehicle. Switzerland (11.8%), Portugal (11.5%), Germany (10.0%), France (9.5%) and Great Britain (9.0%) follow.
- These nine countries account for 85% of sales of electric and plug-in hybrid cars. The other twenty countries (including those located in Eastern Europe) therefore represent only 15% of sales of this type of model. The largest volumes are represented by Germany, France, Great Britain, Norway and Sweden. Smaller volumes are represented by Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Greece.
- It is possible that the expected growth in sales of electric and plug-in hybrid cars in the 2020s will remain concentrated in countries with high purchasing power as they do today, given the high price of this type of vehicle.

The strategy of the future Stellantis group is taking shape

The strategy of the future Stellantis group is taking shape
The plan to merge the PSA and FCA groups is on track. It should become reality in a few weeks, because the European Commission seems to want to give its agreement for the achievement of this merger of the two groups. In the meantime, the strategy of the future Stellantis group is becoming clearer:
1 / FCA would have committed to the production and marketing of future models on the basis of PSA platforms (CMP on A / B segments, EMP2 on C / D segments, EVMP for electrics in C / D segments).
2 / The future group should only use 4 main platforms in addition to utility vehicles (including Ram pick-ups), namely CMP, EMP2, EVMP platforms and a platform from FCA dedicated to large models.
3 / The Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger will therefore be renewed, while the old FCA plan condemned these three models. Likewise, the Lancia brand would no longer be abandoned. The Ypsilon model would be renewed on a CMP platform.
4 / The two manufacturers are said to have undertaken to rationalize their catalog of commercial vehicles. The future Fiat Doblo would thus take over the bodywork of the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Opel Combo. The Fiorino would be abandoned. The Talento would take over the bodywork of the Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert and Opel Vivaro.
5 / The acquisition of JLR (mentioned several times) would be carefully studied, even if it is not a priority for the Stellantis group.
It would nonetheless make it possible to have two Premium brands with strong sales potential and known internationally.

Porsche Taycan sales now significantly surpass Panamera sales

Porsche Taycan sales now significantly surpass Panamera sales
- The Porsche brand (a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group) launched its first four-door sedan (F segment) in 2009, the Panamera.
This 4.97 m long, 1.93 m wide and 1.42 m high model has succeed to find its market, as it has sold 280,000 units in total since 2009, or more than 25 000 per year. The Panamera competes with the Mercedes S-Class and AMG GT 4-door, the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8. Today it only has 3.0-liter, 3.6-liter and 4.0-liter petrol engines.

The Panamera competes with the Mercedes S-Class and AMG GT 4-door, the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8. Today it only has 3.0-liter, 3.6-liter and 4.0-liter petrol engines.
- In 2019, the carmaker therefore took the bet of revolutionizing the segment by launching a new four-door sedan, this time equipped with a 100% electric engine.
- This model of the same dimensions as the Panamera (length: 4.96 m, width: 1.96 m, height: 1.38 m) is sold at practically the same price, since the Panamera is priced between 95,000 and 195,000 euros and the Taycan between 110,000 and 190,000 euros.
- When we compare the sales evolution of the two models, we observe that the Panamera started to decline as soon as the Taycan was announced, and the gap between the two models has continued to grow. since then. In July 2020, 500 Panamera were sold for 1,400 Taycan. In November 2020, 300 Panamera were sold for nearly 2,000 Taycan. At the end of 2020, 10,000 Panamera and 30,000 Taycan will be sold worldwide.
- So there is a real possibility that there will not be a third generation of the Panamera and that the Taycan will eventually replace this model completely in the Porsche range.

PSA's eVMP platform will be produced from 2023

PSA's eVMP platform will be produced from 2023
- PSA's eVMP platform will not be available on production cars before 2023. Contrary to what had been announced in the Auto-Analysis of August 21, 2020, the new generations of the Peugeot 308, Citroën C5 and Opel Astra scheduled for 2021 will not will not receive the new platform, given that their design started several years ago and that at that time the eVMP platform was not ready.
- The first models to be equipped with this new platform will therefore be the future Peugeot 3008 and 5008, scheduled for 2023. Then the renewal of the PSA ranges of the C and D segments will make it possible to generalize this platform to all of these models. Remember that the eVMP platform is derived from the EMP2 platform, that it is dedicated to models of segments C and D, and that it makes it possible to design a 100% electric car, a hybrid car (rechargeable or not) or a heat engine on the same basis.
- Initially planned for the Citroën, DS, Peugeot, Opel and Vauxhall brands, the eVMP platform will also be intended for the Fiat, Alfa-Roméo and Jeep brands, following the merger of FCA with PSA. It will gradually replace the EMP2 platform, which should disappear by 2030, even for light commercial vehicles.
- At that time, there will be within the Stellantis group only two platforms of PSA origin (eCMP and eVMP), plus those of FCA origin (mainly that of light commercial vehicles, that of Ram pick-ups and that of large Chrysler / Dodge sedans).

xEVs sales in China over 9 months 2020
- Among the 1,784,293 battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (BEV) vehicles sold worldwide over the nine months of 2020, 772,340 units were sold in Europe and 695,131 units in China. China has fallen this year to the second place in the world for this type of vehicle, following the drop of subsidies granted to electric car customers in 2019. However following the figures recorded in the third quarter of 2020, growth should however pick up again in 2021.
- Among the 695,131 plug-in electric vehicles sold, 496,062 units are BEVs and 199,069 PHEVs. Compared to Europe, there are more BEVs sold in China than in Europe in 2020, but far less PHEVs.
- The current BEV market leader in China is the GM group, thanks to its subsidiaries Wuling and Baojun, which is just ahead of the traditional Chinese leader, BYD. Tesla comes in third, even though its Model 3 is the best-selling BEV in China in 2020. The next positions change regularly depending on the renewal and success of the product offer. In 2020, GAC is fourth, ahead of NIO which makes its entry into the Top 10 this year.
- In the PHEV category, German carmakers Volkswagen and BMW occupy the first places, with BYD. Lixiang made its first entry into the Top 10. Hybrid vehicles (HEVs), represented by Toyota and Honda, reached 159,910 sales.
- The total of xEVs sold in China therefore stands at 855,041 units, or 6.4% of the Chinese market, with 3.7% of BEVs, 1.5% of PHEVs and 1.2% of HEVs.
