Lamborghini plans to double sales with their new SUV
- The Brazilian automotive market (PC+LCV) has increased , after four years of uninterrupted decline. It has been positive since March 2017 and growth has accelerated since then. In 2016 there was already some improvement over 2015, as the market, while continuing to decline, did so less, month over month (+16,8% in May 2017).
- The Italian firm Lamborghini, which has been producing very sporty cars since its creation in 1963, had several owners before being bought in 1998 by German Audi (Volkswagen Group).
- The current range of Lamborghini which includes two different size coupes, the Huracan and the Aventador (3,500 total sales in 2016), will host a third: the Urus model in the spring of 2018. This model will be a SUV that will use the same platform as the Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga.
- The Italian firm has resolved to add a SUV to its range because of the strong demand for this type of model, all over the world. Even sports-oriented brands, such as Alfa-Romeo, Maserati or Aston-Martin, are marketing or preparing to market an SUV.
- The Urus will be manufactured in the Lamborghini factory of Sant'Agata Bolognese, where the Huracan and Aventador are manufactured today . The firm expects to sell 1,000 Urus in 2018 and 3,500 in 2019 and the following years, so that this model will help Lamborghini double its sales between 2016 and 2019.
- The Urus should be powered by a V8 turbo petrol, while the Huracan is equipped with a V10 and the Aventador a V12. There will be no diesel on the Urus, but a rechargeable gasoline hybrid version is planned for the fall of 2019.

VW’s Skoda Citigo et Seat Mii will be discontinued
- The Volkswagen Group has been marketing a A segment sedans under their three brands: Volkswagen (Up), Skoda (Citigo) and Seat (Mii) since 2011. However, the success of these models remains very relative (172,000 sales in 2016, of which 114,000 Up, 37,000 Citigo and 21,000 Mii).
- This is why the Volkswagen group decided not to replace the Citigo and Mii who are in the second half of their series life (they were restyled in 2016).
- The German carmaker says it wants to focus on the launch of the future small SUVs Skoda (name unknown) and Seat (Arona) on the high growth B segment SUV market.
- According to the manufacturer, sales of these future small SUVs are expected to be two to three times higher than those of the Citigo and Mii, from 75,000 to 100,000 for the Skoda model positioned below the Karoq (C segment) and 40,000 to 60,000 for the Seat model located below the Ateca (C segment).
- As far as the Volkswagen Up is concerned, it should be replaced (around 2020), even if a segment B SUV is now about to be launched under the VW brand (known as T-Roc). This small SUV (4.23m long) should be manufactured at the Volkswagen site in Portugal (Palmela) from the fourth quarter of 2017.

Fiat replaces Punto… in South America

Fiat replaces Punto… in South America
- Fiat moved gradually from first place to second place in Brazil behind Chevrolet. One of the reasons for this decline is undoubtedly a questionable range positioning in recent years. Indeed, while in 2017, the Brazilian market is composed of 23% of A segment cars, 56% B segment cars, 19% C segment cars and 2% D / E / F segment cars , Fiat sells 31% of segment A cars and 69% segment B cars, eliminating the 21% of the market made up of cars of segments C, D, E, F.
- Concerning body types , while the Brazilian market is composed of 67% sedans, 18% SUVs and 14% pick-ups in 2017, Fiat sales are 57% sedans and 37% pick-ups, eliminating the SUV’s 18% of the market.
- Despite the lack of products in the segment of SUVs and segment C sedans, Fiat has decided to replace the old Punto by the Argo, while Uno and Palio , the other B segment cars made 26% of Fiat sales in the first five months of 2017. The Argo is based on the Fiat 500L, 500X, Renegade and Tipo platforms sold in Europe. But the Argo will not be sold in Europe. It will be reserved only for markets in South America.
- The engines of the Argo are the following: 1.0 gasoline / 77hp; 1.3 gasoline / 109hp; 1.8 gasoline /139hp; This 4 meter long sedan will be, as all Fiat cars produced in Brazil, manufactured on the Betim site.
- While the Brazilian market is growing over the first five months of 2017, Fiat sales dropped 9%.The success of this model is therefore crucial for the Italian manufacturer.
