Skoda Scala production should reach 70,000 a year
- Skoda is replacing its Rapid model (C segment sedan) with the Scala hatchback. The Rapid has not met the expected success in the European market (40,000 sales in the first nine months of 2018), but it will continue to be sold on the Russian market (25,000 sales in the first nine months of 2018) and on the Chinese market (55,000 sales in the first 9 months of 2018) where it is produced.
- The Scala, which takes on the appearance of the former Rapid Spaceback (5-door sedan), is now similar to a Volkswagen Golf or even an Audi A3, especially because of its size, but it is based on the MQB-A0 platform (the one VW Polo, VW T-Cross, Seat Ibiza, Seat Arona, and Skoda Fabia are built on ) and not on the MQB-B platform (that of the VW Golf).
- The Scala is 436m long, 10cm longer than the VW Golf, but 30cm shorter than a Skoda Octavia. It is 13cm shorter than the Rapid sedan but 5cm longer than the Rapid Spaceback.
- Its engines are as follows: a 95hp / 115hp 1.0 TSI 3-cylinder petrol engine, a 150hp 1.5 TSI 4-cylinder petrol engine and a 115hp 4-cylinder 1.6 diesel engine.
- Made in Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic), the Scala, which fits into the Skoda range between Fabia and Octavia, is expected to be produced at 70,000 units a year.

Tesla plans to sell 500,000 electric cars in 2020

Tesla plans to sell 500,000 electric cars in 2020
- Tesla, the Californian manufacturer of electric cars has produced 168,000 vehicles in the first nine months of 2018 (92,000 Model 3, 49,000 Model S, and 27,000 Model X), twice as many as in the first nine months of 2017. A this pace, Tesla could, for the first time, achieve sales of over 250,000 units in 2018.
- The US manufacturer expects to exceed this figure and reach 350,000 sales in 2019 and 500,000 in 2020. Inovev considers these goals as realistic, especially since the new Tesla factory in China should soon open and two new models should be launched soon, a roadster and a compact SUV (Model Y), not to mention a 100% electric truck.
- Tesla has already sold 500,000 electric cars since its inception, making it the most widely sold electric car brand in the world, although in terms of automobile groups, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi is ahead.
- True that Tesla has lost a lot of money so far, but the company is posting its first profits in the third quarter of 2018, and it is likely that in 2019 the brand should start to reap the rewards of its huge investments in R & D and quick chargers (superchargers) development. But it's mostly the Model 3, with current production at 20,000 units a month, which has allowed Tesla to scale up and become a large volume OEM.

Renault sells its first hybrid models as of end 2019

Renault sells its first hybrid models as of end 2019
- Renault was one of the first major manufacturers to launch the mass production of electric vehicles in the early 2010s. Electrical models currently sold by the French manufacturer are Zoe and Kangoo ZE. Renault will sell nearly 50,000 units in total in 2018.
- Renault was not at all interested in the market for hybrid vehicles (rechargeable or not) until last year, but since the acquisition of Mitsubishi by the Renault-Nissan group, the French manufacturer has adapted its strategy. Indeed, Mitsubishi is successful with the Outlander plug-in hybrid (nearly 40,000 sold in 2018). In addition, the demise of diesel in Europe requires new solutions, and hybrid technology can be a first step before that of 100% electric.
- Renault will launch a Clio hybrid at the end of 2019, a plug-in hybrid Captur in 2020, a plug-in Hybrid Kadjar in 2021 and a plug-in Hybrid Mégane in 2022. These future-generation models will use the same original 1600cc Nissan engine to which an original Nissan electric motor will be added. The origin of this technology, inspired by that of Mitsubishi, indicates that some Nissan models, including the future Qashqai, will also be assigned this type of engine.
- This is a brand new market for Renault. Inovev nevertheless expects a sales volume of 15% HEV-PHEV at the end of the 2020-2025 period for all sales of the Renault brand.

Inovev forecasts 180,000 new L 200 pickup truck sales per year

Inovev forecasts 180,000 new L 200 pickup truck sales per year
- Mitsubishi has renewed its L 200 pickup (called Triton in some markets). This medium tonnage pickup is made in Thailand (on the Laem Chabang site) since the beginning of the model. In 2017 150,000 L 200s were produced, making it the second best-selling model of the brand, behind the Outlander (240,000 units in 2017), although its sales have dropped significantly since 2012 (when the L200 achieved a record 180,000 annual sales). Today it still accounts for nearly 12.5% of Mitsubishi's worldwide sales, proof that this model is crucial for the brand.
- Despite Mitsubishi's entry into the Renault-Nissan group at the end of 2016, the new generation of the L200 pickup truck is derived from the older generation of 100% Mitsubishi design. The next generation could be derived instead from the Nissan Navara, Renault Alaskan, or Mercedes X Class, for reasons of economies of scale.
- The new Mitsubishi L200 is still equipped, for Europe and worldwide, with a 4-cylinder 2.4 181hp diesel engine. The transmission is last generation, but a new 6-speed automatic gearbox will be introduced soon.
- While its Fiat Fullback derivative seems condemned by the integration of Mitsubishi in the Renault-Nissan group, Inovev expects 180,000 sales per year of the new L200 pickup.

PSA will sell its first hybrid petrol models as of 2019

PSA will sell its first hybrid petrol models as of 2019
- Between 2012 and 2017, the PSA Group proposed models with diesel hybrid powertrains (3008, 508, DS 5), which reached a total of nearly 100,000 sales (or 17,000 units per year). However, the manufacturer has stopped manufacturing these models - the diesel engine is now highly criticized - and announced a new generation of hybrid models, rechargeable this time, and based on a petrol engine, the PSA 1600cc.
- The models equipped with this new rechargeable hybrid engine will be launched from 2019. They are Peugeot 3008, Peugeot 508, Citroen C5 Aircross and DS 7 Crossback. These models will all be sold in 2019. Inovev expects a volume of 260,000 sales of these plug-in hybrid models between 2019-2023 (52,000 units per year), which marks a clear improvement over sales of non rechargeable diesel hybrids.
- For smaller models, the PSA Group plans 100% electric versions, such as the DS 3 Crossback (2019), the Peugeot 208 (2019), the Peugeot 2008 (2020), the Opel Corsa (2020) and the Peugeot 308 (2021).
- An electric version of the future Peugeot 108 (Toyota design) could also be produced, just like the future Citroen C1. The Citroën C3 could also add an electric version during series production. The Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Citroën Jumpy and Peugeot Expert utilities will also be electrified in 2020.
