Toyota and PSA will stop their cooperation in small cars
The Toyota group announced that its partnership with the PSA group in small thermal engine cars (Toyota Aygo , Citroen C1, Peugeot 108) should stop in 2021.

These small cars, of Toyota design, have been produced in the Toyota-PSA factory located in Kolin in the Czech Republic since 2005. Owned 50% by Toyota and 50% by PSA today, the Kolin plant will become 100% Toyota in 2021, the Japanese manufacturer having decided to buy the PSA share in this joint venture.

The current generation of Toyota Aygo, Citroën C1 and Peugeot 108 date of 2014. These three models will be discontinued in 2021, unless Toyota decides to continue production of Aygo on this site. This scenario is not favored at the moment, since Toyota could very well produce the Corolla, which is produced today on the British site at Burnaston, in Kolin.

In this hypothesis, the Burnaston site would inevitably close.

On the other hand, Toyota announced the strengthening of its partnership with the PSA group in the field of light commercial vehicles. Thus, in the early 2020s, PSA could produce a rebadged Toyota version of the Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Opel / Vauxhall Combo, on its Vigo (Spain) site. All these announcements could have considerable impact on the A segment sedan and the light commercial vehicle markets.

Inovev forecasts 100,000 new Range Evoques per year
The new generation of the Land Rover Range Evoque should have been presented at the Mondial de l'Automobile, last October, but the manufacturer preferred to unveil this model a month and a half later.

The new model (code L551) is built on a new platform that will allow the Evoque to be electrified. A plug-in hybrid version (based on a 3-cylinder petrol engine) is scheduled for next year.

The new Range Evoque retains the look of the old (whose origins date back to 2011) and it will be manufactured in the same factory in Halewood (Great Britain).

It will be marketed only in  the four-door version, since the coupe and cabriolet versions will not be renewed.

It will be powered by the 4-cylinder petrol 2.0 l  200hp, 250hp, 300hp and 4-cylinder diesel 2.0 l 150hp, 180hp and 240hp. In 2019, a 1.5-cylinder, 3-cylinder, plug-in hybrid petrol engine will complete the offering.

Inovev expects an annual production volume of 100,000.

The Range Evoque is in the Land Rover range below Range Velar, Range Sport and Range. Its positioning is different than Discovery and Discovery Sport, which aim for another clientele and image. The new Defender, the entry-level model of the brand should appear in late 2019 or early 2020.

Inovev forecasts 50,000 new Jeep Gladiator pickups per year
Jeep (a subsidiary of the Fiat-Chrysler Group) unveiled its new mid-size pickup, the Gladiator, which is based on the recent Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep brand has already produced mid-tonnage pickups between 1963 and 1992, but sales had never been satisfactory. Today, the Fiat-Chrysler Group believes there is a new potential for mid-range pickups, particularly in North America, where Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge compact pickups have re-appeared on the market (specifically to counter mid-range Japanese pick-ups).

The Fiat-Chrysler Group believes that the image of the Jeep brand is strong enough today (1.4 million sales in 2017 and 1.6 million in 2018) to engage in the manufacture and marketing of pick-ups that have never been a Jeep brand specialty up to now.

The new Gladiator pickup, which carries over the entire front end of the Wrangler, will be powered by the 290hp 3.6-liter V6 engine already mounted on the Wrangler, and a new 265hp diesel V6 engine, both of them available as either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic.

The Gladiator, which will be the sixth model of the Jeep brand, will be produced at the historic Jeep site in Toledo, Ohio, alongside the Wrangler. Inovev expects a production volume of 50,000 annual units.

Inovev forecasts 35,000 new Porsche 911s per year
The new Porsche 911 was expected at the Paris Motor Show last October, but Porsche decided to unveil the eighth-generation 911 coupe (code 992) at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Admittedly, the US market is the biggest market for the 911, since it sold 9,000 units on this market in 2017, against 7,500 in Germany, 2,200 in Great Britain, 1,200 in Canada and 1200 in China out of a total of 33,761 units produced.

The new model retains the appearance of the previous 911 with a slight modernization of the design and the technical characteristics.

The Porsche 911 remains the premium coupe of the brand (pending a hypothetical replacement of the old Porsche 928), which sells three times more than the Cayman mid-range coupe despite the latter being at  half the price.

The new Porsche 911 is still equipped with the six-cylinder turbo 3.0-liter rear-displacement petrol engine, developing 444hp this time.

The new model will be, as previously, manufactured on the Porsche site in Stuttgart (Germany), alongside the Boxster and Cayman and soon the Taycan. The Panamera, Cayenne and Macan are made in Leipzig.

Inovev expects annual production of 35,000 of the new Porsche 911.

Inovev forecasts 450,000 new Mazda 3s per year
Mazda (one of the last mid-sized independent automakers) unveiled the new generation of its Mazda 3 sedan at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

This sharp style C segment model replaces the sedan whose origins date back to 2013. Like the old model, the new Mazda 3 is available in two different body types, hatchback (5-door sedan) and notchback (4-door sedan), principally intended for the American and Chinese markets. There is no station wagon in this range.

- At 4.46m long, the new Mazda 3 is 1cm shorter than the previous one, but longer than most sedans in its segment. Thus, it exceeds the VW Golf by 20cm, the Opel Astra by 9cm and the Ford Focus by 8cm.

The Mazda 3, which remains one of the best-selling models of the brand (442,000 units in 2017), will be built in two petrol versions (1.5 l, 105hp and 2.0 l,  120hp or 165hp) and a diesel version (1.8 l, 150hp). There will be no hybrid in this range. Sales of the new Mazda 3 are expected to begin in the spring of 2019.

The model will be manufactured as today, in Japan (Hofu) for the Japanese and European markets, in China (Changchun) for the Chinese market, and in Mexico (Salamanca) for the North American market. Inovev expects an overall production volume of 450,000 per year.
