PSA will assemble 6 000 Expert/Jumpy per year in Uruguay
- The PSA group will assemble 6,000 Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy in Uruguay, destined for all of South America (mainly Brazil and Argentina). These light utility vehicles (LUVs) of category N-2, will be assembled in Montevideo by Nordex, a  local industrialist.

- The PSA Group sold 27,000 LUVs to South America in 2016, of which 21,000 were manufactured locally and 6,000 imported from France. PSA produces its LUVs destined exclusively for the South American continent on two production sites:

1. At Villa Bosch in Argentina for the manufacture of N1-1 segment Peugeot Partner and Citroën Berlingo utility vehicles: , producing  18,500 units in 2016.

2. At Betim in Brazil for the manufacture of N1-3 segment Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper  utility vehicles:, producing  2,500 units in 2016. This factory belongs to FCA,  and  manufactures Fiat Ducato and its French derivatives Boxer and Jumper.

- The N1-2  Expert and Jumpy manufactured in Uruguay will replace  the imports from France.
The manufacturer expects more than 50,000 sales of Peugeot and Citroën LUV in South America in 2021 (doubling sales compared to 2016).

- The most produced MPV segment C in the world in 2016 is the Volkswagen Touran which totaled 172,000 units. This model launched in 2015 is currently produced in two countries: Germany ,with 127,000 units  for world markets (excluding China) and China  with  45,000 units for the Chinese market. The model should be replaced in 2023. In the world ranking of C segment MPVs, VW Tourantook the lead over all its competitors including the pioneer Renault Scénic who invented the compact MPV concept in 1996.


- The VW Touran is ahead of the previous generation of the Peugeot 3008 (123,000 units including 81,000 produced  in France and 42,000 in China), BMW Active Tourer (121,000 units  produced in Germany only), Ford C-Max (116,000 units produced only in Germany) , The Citroën C4 Picasso (111,000 units produced only in Spain), the Mercedes B-Class (105,000 units produced   only in Hungary) and the Renault Scénic (90,000 units produced  only in France). These figures include long wheelbase versions, such as BMW Gran Tourer, Ford Grand C-Max, Citroen C4 Grand Picasso and Renault Grand Scénic.


- The C segment segment MPV  global market  reaches almost 1.25 million units in 2016. In Europe (29 countries), the most produced C segment MPVs in 2016 are VW Touran (127,000 units), BMW Active Tourer (121,000 units), Ford C-Max (116,000 units) and Citroën C4 Picasso (111,000 units).

The Most Produced D segment SUV in 2016

- The most produced segment D SUV in the world in 2016 is the Nissan Rogue (also marketed  as X-Trail ) which totaled 810,000 units. This model launched in 2014 is currently produced in four different countries: Japan (323,000 units) for the Japanese and European markets, China (180,000 units) for the Chinese market, the USA (170,000 units) and Korea ( 137,000 units) for markets in North America. The model should be replaced in 2020.


- In the world market for D segment SUVs, the Nissan Rogue / X-Trail is ahead of the Toyota RAV4 (755,000 units, including 377,000  produced in Japan and 250,000 in Canada), the Honda CRV (680,000 units, including 210,000  produced in Canada, 180,000 in China and 170,000 in the US), Hyundai Santa Fe (370,000 units including 203,000 produced  in Korea and 140,000 in the US), the Jeep Cherokee (355,000 units, including 245,000  produced in the US and 110,000 in China) and The Mazda CX5 (350,000 units, including 300,000  produced in Japan and 50,000 in China). The  overall  D-segment SUV   market was more  than 6 million units in 2016.


- In Europe (29 countries), the Premium brands produced  most  of the D segment SUVs in 2016 ,and   mass production OEMs produce very few of these models on this continent. The most popular models in Europe are the Volvo XC60 (170,000 units), Audi Q5 (158,000 units), Mercedes GLC (118,000 units) and Land Rover Discovery Sport (89,000 units) which are sold in Europe and exported to the whole world.

- The most produced D/E Segement  MPV  in the world in 2016 is the Honda Odyssey which totaled 210,000 units. This model , launched in 2011, is currently produced in three different countries: the USA (131,000 units) for markets in North America, Japan (40,000 units) for the Japanese market and finally China (39,000 units) for The Chinese market. This model,  with its first generation in 1995, is in its fourth generation. The Honda Odyssey is expected to be replaced in 2018.

- The Odyssey was originally created to compete with the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan, which had been the first large MPVs sold in North America and were the best sellers for many years.

- Soon after, in 1997, Toyota launched its own large MPV with the same objective, and one finds this model in fourth position in 2016, in terms of worldwide sales. The Toyota Sienna is in its third generation and should be replaced in 2018 as well.

- The large MPV market has narrowed considerably over the last ten years, notably under pressure from the growing  sales of large SUVs. The market for large MPVs is  only 1.7 million units in 2016, located mainly in North America and Japan. This market has become marginal in Europe and China. In Europe, the most produced D / E segment  MPV in Europe in 2016 is the Ford Galaxy / S-Max (90,000 units).

The Most Produced E Segment SUV in 2016
- The most produced segment E in the world in 2016 is the Toyota Land Cruiser which has totaled 365,000 units. This model launched in 2009 and restyled in 2013 is currently produced in two different countries: Japan (325,000 units) for the Japanese, American and European markets, and China (40,000 units) for the Chinese market. The Land Cruiser is expected to be replaced in 2017. Curiously, this model has difficulty in  gaining sales in the USA where the clientele prefers the Highlander.

- In the world production  rankings, the Toyota Land Cruiser is ahead of the Toyota Highlander (325,000 units, including 230,000 in the USA and 95,000 in China), the Ford Explorer (323,000 units in the USA alone), the Chevrolet Equinox (278,000 units in Canada only), the Jeep Grand Cherokee (269,000 units in the US alone) and the Lexus RX (240,000 units, including 126,000 units in Japan and 114,000 units in Canada). E-segment SUV global market  is of nearly 5 million units in 2016, driven by strong demand in North America. In Europe (29 countries), the most developed segment E SUVs in 2016 are mainly made up of Premium brands , and  general carmakers produce very few of these models on this continent.

- The most popular models  produced in Europe are Audi Q7 (106,000 units), Volvo XC90 (90,000 units), Porsche Cayenne (77,000 units) and Jaguar F-Pace (67,000 units) which are sold in Europe and exported to the whole world.
