Suzuki is expected to sell between 85,000 and 100,000 Jimnys a year
- Japan's Suzuki, the world's 10th largest automaker (with 3.2 million sales), unveiled the new generation of the small Jimny SUV. The generation currently marketed dates back about twenty years, since it began its commercial career in 1998. Restyled in 2005 and in 2012, the Suzuki Jimny was one of the oldest models still on sale.
- With a 1.3-liter petrol engine developing 85hp, the Jimny has totaled 850,000 sales in twenty years, or 42,500 units per year on average. Since 2016, however, this totally obsolete model has become ultra-confidential (15,000 sales in 2017) both in the Suzuki catalog and on the global market.
- The Japanese manufacturer, however, believes in the future of the SUV market in the A segment, since the new generation Jimny, which looks like a small Jeep, is expected to sell twice as much as the current model, i.e. between 85 000 and 100,000 annual units.
- To achieve this goal, the new Jimny has a more powerful 1.5-liter engine (100hp) and its footprint is compact since it measures 3.65m in length, 1.65m in width and 1.73m in height, against 3.55m, 1.60m and 1.71m respectively for the previous generation.
- The new model, as the previous one, will be manufactured on the Japanese site of Iwata.

The Volvo XC90 will be transferred to the US in 2021
- 说明
The Volvo XC90 will be transferred to the US in 2021
- Sweden's Gothenburg plant will lose the production of the Volvo XC90 SUV in 2021 as the manufacturer has announced that the next generation of this model, which will be launched at the end of that year, will be produced at the US factory in Ridgeville, SC. , alongside the Volvo S60 sedan that is being manufactured there since the beginning of summer 2018.
- Sales of the XC90 in North America generally exceed 30,000 units per year, but with exports to Europe (over 30,000 sales per year), Japan, Korea and the Middle East, this model’s production on the Ridgeville site could easily exceed 70,000 annual units.
- The model will also be manufactured in China for local and Southeast Asia. demand .
- With the S60 sedan and the XC90 SUV, the Ridgeville Volvo plant will produce 150,000 vehicles per year, which is its maximum production capacity. It is possible that this capacity will be doubled in the medium term. Other Volvo models could then be manufactured in this factory.
- This transfer of production of Volvo S60 and XC90 from Europe to the United States, although not directly related to the US government's desire to limit imports to the benefit of local production (the project dates from over 10 years ago), nonetheless perfectly matches the objectives of the Trump administration.

US government wants to limit imports and encourage local production
- 说明
US government wants to limit imports and encourage local production
- Over the months, the core of US governmental policy is emerging: it follows the principles of local employment and priority to the domestic US auto industry. Today, the government's actions are therefore based on the objective of producing more cars in the United States and limiting imports from Asia (Japan, Korea in particular) and Europe (mainly Germany), but also from their historical partners of the NAFTA zone (Canada, Mexico).
- In 2017, the US produced 11.3 million vehicles on their territory, while the US market accounted for 17.3 million units of which 8.3 million were imported and 9 million produced on site.
- The goal of the US government is to transfer some of the 8.3 million imported vehicles to production on US soil. In 2017, the countries that exported the most vehicles to the US were Mexico (2.4 million units), Canada (1.8 million units), Japan (1.7 million units), South Korea (0.9 million units) and Germany (0.6 million units). For Mexico and Canada, it is mostly GM, Ford and Fiat-Chrysler, while for Japan it is most of the Japanese brands and for Korea the Hyundai-Kia group. The problem is that most factories operating in the US are currently operating at the limit of their capabilities. So current US plants should be expanded or new plants built to produce 2 or 3 million additional vehicles.

The FCA Group wants to recover its sales leader position in Latin America
- 说明
The FCA Group wants to recover its sales leader position in Latin America
- The FCA Group wants to become again the sales leader in Latin America (South America and Central America), as in the 90s. Today, FCA is overtaken by General-Motors which enjoys a privileged position in Brazil and Renault- Nissan enjoys a privileged position in Mexico.
- The Volkswagen group, which between 2006 and 2013 became the sales leader in this region, thanks to both its strong positions in Brazil and Mexico, lost market share and fell back to fourth place after 2013, behind General Motors, Renault-Nissan and Fiat-Chrysler (FCA).
- The FCA group intends to launch 15 new models under the Fiat brand and 10 new models under the Jeep brand, by 2022.,in order to regain sales leadership in this region.
- The Italian-American manufacturer produced 1.2 million vehicles in Latin America in 2017, compared with 0.9 million in 2016 (thanks to the ramp up of the Jeep Compass ). Its production capacity in the region is 1.25 million vehicles per year. If the FCA Group wants to overtake General Motors and Renault-Nissan in this region, it will have to increase its production capacity, perhaps to 1.5 million vehicles per year.
