Small urban vehicles unveiled at Paris 2022 show
At the Paris Motor Show 2022, producers of small urban vehicles were strongly represented. We briefly introduce them to you:
- Aixam: The current French market leader in this segment presented its range of very small vehicles with combustion engine and electric motor in Paris. BEVs are available from €17,190. They generally travel no faster than 45 km/h and have a range of about 75 to 100 km. It is to be noted that two other producers of small urban vehicles didn’t participate this year : Ligier and Citroën (with the Ami model).
- XEV: The Chinese manufacturer has come up with a concept involving battery swap stations. Unlike NIO, however, they are much smaller and can be swapped manually. It will probably be available for the car sharing market first, before being available for individual customers as well.
- E GO: The German start-up from Aachen has sold all 1,500 vehicles produced of the old version and says there is already a long waiting list for the new version called e.waveX, which is expected to be launched in early 2023 for around €25,000. It has a range of 125 km and can accommodate up to four people.
- City Transformer: an Israeli start-up company with a small car, the CT-1, that will be able to adjust its wheelbase. Currently still in the concept stage, mass production is expected to begin as early as 2024. The car is expected to be able to travel up to 90 km/h and 180 km. Its price will be around €16,000.
- Mobilize: Renault has developed the Duo, which is derived from the Twizy, for its Mobilize advanced mobility program. It will be available on a subscription basis and have a range of 145 km. It can reach 45 km/h in a limited version and 85 km/h in a non-limited version.
- Silence: the electric scooter manufacturer has developed a small vehicle, the S04, in which the battery can be removed and transported like a cart; the concept has already been tested with Silence scooters. The vehicle has a top speed of 90 km/h and a range of 149 km.
- Micro: The Swiss pedal scooter company has adopted the design of the Isetta for the Microlino, with the iconic front door and two seats. It will be available for about €15,000. It is said to be able to travel up to 230 km and be 90 km/h fast.

This event generally takes place every two years but due to the pandemic the last edition dates back to 2018, that of 2020 having been cancelled. This “Mondial” is being held in a particular context: sluggishness of the market in Europe, and development of new means of communication leading to less attractiveness of the shows for the public. Unlike all previous shows, this event will not be intended to bring together all manufacturers, but will be targeted.
₋ Will be present:
§ French brands: Renault group (Renault, Dacia, Alpine) and Stellantis (mainly with French brands and the american brand Jeep).
§ Chinese brands: ORA and Wey (both belonging to the Great Wall group), BYD and Leap motors.
§ A Vietnamese brand: Vinfast.
§ Two start-ups (French-based) targeting the hydrogen vehicle market: Hopium and NamX.
§ A collection of brands targeting the small urban vehicle market: Aixam, City transformer, Eon motors, E-go mobile, KG auto, Microlino, Mobilize, Silence, XEVs Cars, etc.
§ Influencers (such as Vilebrequin).
₋ In the rest of this document, are presented the novelties announced by these players:

§ French-based “Hydrogen” start-up: Hopium will present its sports sedan concept, named Machina, and NamX its HUV named model, an SUV, both of which will be powered by hydrogen.
§ Chinese carmakers: Electric carmaker BYD will showcase the Atto 3 (a compact SUV), Tang (a large SUV) and Han (a sedan), with an expected release in Europe in Q4 2022. Great Wall will present the compact Ora Cat. Seres will present its large SUV, the Seres 5.

§ Small urban vehicles: Aixam, City Transformer, E-Go Mobile, Eon Motors, Microlino, Mobilize, Silence and XEV.
§ Other exhibitors: The American carmaker Fisker will be present with its Ocean.
₋ In conclusion, the Paris Motor Show 2022 does not at all reflect the current state of the European market as a whole. It will mainly be a Franco-Chinese show for passenger cars and a show for small urban vehicles.
