Inovev plans 250,000 units per year of the new BMW X1 SUV
BMW has presented the third generation (code U11) of its most popular SUV in the world, namely the C-segment X1 which shares its UKL platform with the recent Active Tourer (C-segment) and the Mini Countryman (B-segment). Last year, the older generation of the X1 was produced in 250,000 units worldwide, including 100,000 units in Germany, 100,000 units in China and 50,000 in the Netherlands, its two main markets being Europe and China.

This volume of 250,000 units in 2021 is lower than that of 2017, 2018 and 2019 which was around 275,000 units per year, but Inovev does not believe in a return to these very high levels, due to a slowdown in the market. worldwide due to increasingly high prices and the decline in sales of thermal engine versions. The new BMW X1 is also offered in a 100% electric version called iX1 and equipped with a 62.5 kWh battery, which completes the already known range of i3, i4, i7, iX3 and iX.

The thermal engines are the 3-cylinder 1.5-litre petrol engine with 136 hp and the 4-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine with 150 hp.

The only room for improvement of the X1 would be due to a transfer of certain sales of X3, which is not certain, even if the new X1 lengthens by 5 cm, its length passing to 4.50 m, widens 2 cm (to 1.84 m) and rises 4 cm (1.64 m).

This competitor of the Mercedes GLB, Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, Range Rover Evoque, Lexus UX, Jaguar E-Pace and DS7 Crossback will be produced in the three factories where it is currently produced: Regensburg (Germany), Born (Netherlands) and Shenyang (China) at the rate of 250,000 units per year according to Inovev. Inovev plans 200,000 units per year of the new Lexus RX SUV
Lexus, a luxury subsidiary of the Toyota group, presented the new generation of its E-segment SUV, the RX, the previous one of which dated back to 2015. This hybrid-powered SUV is produced equally at two different sites, Miyawaka in Japan and that of Cambridge in Canada, quickly imposed itself on the world market as one of the references in the field of Premium SUV. It is especially in North America that the Lexus RX has its best sales scores (125,000 sales in 2021, including 115,000 in the United States and 10,000 in Canada), this region representing more than half of its global sales. Last year, 210,000 Lexus RXs were sold worldwide.

This competitor of the BMW X5/X6, Mercedes GLE/GLE coupé, Audi Q7/Q8 and Volvo XC90 must now face its own internal competition, the new 100% electric Lexus RZ which risks taking part of its clientele.

This is the reason why Inovev thinks that the sales levels reached by the Lexus RX in the years 2017 and 2018 (a volume of slightly more than 250,000 copies per year) will never again be reached and that we must instead count on 200,000 units per year of the new generation, which is still a high figure for a vehicle of this price.

The new Lexus RX is no longer than the previous one (4.89 m) and it is even 1 cm lower. On the other hand, it widens by 2.5 cm.

Its wheelbase is extended by 6 cm. To reduce its carbon footprint, its hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines abandon the 3.5-litre six-cylinder and opt for an equally powerful 2.5-litre four-cylinder.

Inovev plans 25,000 units per year of the new Polestar 3 SUV
The Polestar brand, which is part of the Chinese group Geely, like Volvo or Lotus, was initially a sports subsidiary of the Swedish brand Volvo, like AMG for Mercedes or Alpina for BMW.

In 2017, Volvo announces that Polestar will become a brand in its own right, specializing in high-performance plug-in hybrid and 100% electric vehicles, the models of which will be manufactured in China at Geely.

The first Polestar model meeting these new specifications was presented in October 2017, it is the Polestar 1, a high-performance plug-in hybrid coupe based on the SPA platform which is aesthetically inspired by the old Volvo P1800 coupe. from the 1960s. Its production began in 2019 at the Chinese site in Chengdu.

The second Polestar model meeting the new specifications is presented in January 2019. It is the Polestar 2, a 100% electric sedan which shares its platform with the Polestar 1 and is produced on the same production site.

The third Polestar model, logically called Polestar 3, is a 100% electric SUV which was just presented in June 2022 and whose production should start in the fall of 2022, both in China and in the United States on the site Volvo of Charleston.

It should be noted that Polestars are not marketed in France by court order, following a complaint from Citroën which considers that the brand's logo is too close to its own. Inovev plans 350,000 units per year of the new Mercedes GLC SUV
The Mercedes GLC D-segment SUV (it shares its platform with the Mercedes C-Class) was a resounding success when it was released in 2015, since it very quickly reached a sales volume of 400,000 units in 2018 then 425,000 in 2019. and again 400,000 in 2020, in the midst of the Covid crisis. In 2021, its sales volume again reached a high rate of 350,000 units, and despite this good result, Mercedes did not hesitate to announce its replacement which materializes today.

Its two big markets are Europe and China, where the GLC was produced in 2021 at 200,000 copies and 150,000 copies respectively. The GLC is also the brand's best-selling model in China and the brand's second best-selling model in Europe behind the A-Class. The new generation of the Mercedes GLC, which extends by 6 cm to reach 4.71 m takes over the MRA2 platform with propulsion from the C-Class, E-Class and S-Class.

Its engines are taken from the previous generation (4-cylinder petrol engine with 204 hp or 258 hp and 2-litre diesel with 197 hp) but they are equipped with 48V light hybridization and therefore become mild-hybrids (MHEV-Mild). Plug-in hybrids complete the range, both petrol (381 hp) and diesel (335 hp), while sales of plug-in hybrids tend to stabilize in Europe. This competitor of the BMW X3/X4, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Lexus NX and Jaguar F-Pace will find it difficult to regain its highest levels due to a global market which is expected to shrink. Inovev plans 100,000 units per year of the new Smart SUV
The Geely Group presented the first Smart produced in China. It is an SUV with dimensions close to a Mini Countryman (length: 4.27 m). It is therefore no longer a question of small city cars of segment A whose length did not exceed 2.70 m for the Fortwo or 3.50 m for the Forfour. The new Smart, which is 100% electric like the latest Fortwo and Forfour, weighs 1,820 kilos, and no longer 1,100 kilos like the old models. The new Smart therefore abandons the A segment, which is not profitable enough to now be in the B segment. It is designed on a Geely (SEA) platform and no longer on a Renault (Edison) platform which was used on the Twingo launched in 2014 This new model will no longer be manufactured in Europe (Hambach in France and Novo Mesto in Slovenia) like the old Smart models, but in China at Geely, following recent agreements between Mercedes and Geely.

The new Smart is equipped with a 268 hp electric motor and a battery with a capacity of 66 kWh which allows a range of 450 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. It will be available later in a less powerful version, less than 200 hp.

While production of the Smart in Europe has never exceeded 150,000 units per year, and the decision to remove the thermal versions in 2020 had brutally reduced the brand's sales by 70%, the production of the new Smart could to reach 100,000 units per year, despite its electric motorization and its more upscale positioning, and therefore despite a higher price than that of the Fortwo and Forfour. The new Smart is indeed targeting a larger market, both in Europe and China, with B-segment cars being more in demand than A-segment ones.
