2020 Geneva MotorShow - Honda
Honda e

In opposition of Toyota or Mazda, Honda recently chose to enter this new market for 100% electric sedans via the launch of its city car (segment B sedan) simply called E.

Produced at the Yorii site in Japan, this new model (program code 2EX) based on the PFE-S platform is  aimed at all world markets, mainly Europe, the United States, China and Japan.

The manufacturer's objective is to sell 50,000 units per year (equivalent to the distribution of Renault Zoé), including 10,000 in Europe, figures that corroborate Inovev's  forecasts.

The Honda E is 3.94m long, which places it between the  Smart Forfour (3.50m) and the Renault Zoé (4.08m). It is 1.75m wide , 1.51m  high and its wheelbase  is  2.53m. The Honda E claims in all cases a range of 220 km according to the WLTP cycle.

Its competitors will be the new Renault Zoé, the new electric Mini, the future electric Fiat 500 and the future small electric sedans of the Volkswagen group.

2020 Geneva MotorShow - Hyundai
Hyundai i10

Car manufacturers  are  gradually  moving away from small  A-segment cars on the European  market, as  these models  account for less  than 10% of the European  market  year after year.

Ford has ended  the Ka+ ‘s career, Opel has  discontinued  the Adam and the  Karl, Smart  will stop marketing  Fortwo  and  Forfour in two years' time and Lancia  will probably stop marketing Ypsilon next year. Finally, Peugeot and Citroën  announced  the upcoming end of the 108 and C1.

However, Korean manufacturers Hyundai and Kia are continuing to produce their entry-level models, the i10 and Picanto. Hyundai has just renewed its i10 model produced in Turkey.

The new generation is presented in a completely revised form but which tends to be closer to the Kia Picanto (marketed since 2017).

The i10 sold in Europe will still be manufactured at the Turkish Izmit  site, alongside the Hyundai i20 (B segment ).

Inovev expects 100,000 annual sales of the new i10 produced in Turkey.

2020 Geneva MotorShow - Lexus
Lexus UX 300 e

The Toyota group has launched its first mass-produced Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). The 2019 world's largest carmaker was one of the last major carmaker to not market BEVs. Toyota and its Premium subsidiary Lexus had chosen for the last twenty years to bet initially on hybrid engines vehicles (HEV - thermal engine + electric motor+ small battery), before launching plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV).

The Toyota group has sold nearly 15 million HEVs since 1997, but the new standards in Europe and the introduction of quotas in China have pushed the Japanese group to enlarge its products with BEVS.

The Lexus UX 300e, which remains aesthetically similar to the Lexus UX Hybrid, is therefore the first mass-produced BEV, not only for the Lexus brand, but also for the Toyota group.

This C-segment SUV derived from the Toyota CHR (TNGA-C platform) develops a power of 204ch, would have a range of 300 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.

Kia Sorento

Kia presents its new D-segment SUV, the Sorento, which is produced in Korea, like previous generations.

This large D-segment SUV which is not so well adapted to European demand but rather to American, measures 4.81m in length and can welcome seven passengers.

This model competes with the Nissan X-Trail (Rogue in the United States) and the Toyota Highlander (not sold in Europe).

In the Kia range, it is placed above the Stonic (segment B) and Sportage (segment C).

The Sorento will have a plug-in hybrid engine which will replace the older diesel engine, no more available. In the USA, it is available with a 2500cc and 281hp petrol engine.

2020 Geneva MotorShow - Mercedes
Mercedes GLA

Mercedes has unveiled the new generation of its C segment SUV, the GLA, which is based on the recent Class A and Class B. It therefore takes up the MFA platform but slightly increases its dimensions (like the Class A and CLA) which allows you to have a third side window, which completely changes its physiognomy since it is closer to a real SUV, while the previous GLA looked more like an enhanced Class A than a real SUV.

The new GLA will be produced at the German site in Rastatt, alongside the A Class A and B Class. It is to note that the A Class is partly produced in Rastatt and partly produced in Kecskemét in Hungary.

Inovev forecasts a volume of 150,000 sales per year, while the production of the old GLA fell to 110,000 units in 2019, after reaching a peak of 140,000 units in 2017.

The GLA is the smallest SUV in the Mercedes range which is made up of the GLC (segment D), GLE (segment E) and GLS (segment F), as well as the G-Class which falls into the category of SUVs called "rustic" like the Jeep Wrangler.
