Peugeot unveils its new D segment 508 sedan
Peugeot presents the new generation of its D segment sedan, the 508, which competes with the BMW 3 Series (2012), Mercedes C Class (2014), Audi A4 (2016), VW Passat (2014) or Skoda Superb ( 2015).

While the Citroën C5 was discontinued in 2017 and the DS 5 is in its final months of commercialization, the Peugeot 508 will become the only PSA D segment sedan - along with the GM designed Opel Insignia -, as of  September 2018.

Compared to the Insignia, the new 508 is 15cm shorter and 6cm lower. Compared to the old 508, it is 8cm shorter (at 4.75m), 6cm lower (at 1.40m) and 70kg lighter.

The new 508 is based on the EMP2 platform shared by the Peugeot 308, 3008, 5008 as well as the Citroën C4 Picasso and C5 Aircross. The Peugeot Partner, Expert and Citroën Berlingo, and Jumpy vans also share this platform, as well as the new Opel Combo, which is the second model of the Opel brand to benefit from it (after the Grandland).

- 508 engines will be as follows :  a 1600 PureTech 180hp and 225hp petrol, a BlueHDI 1500hp 130hp diesel, and  a 2000hp BlueHDI diesel of 160hp and 180hp. A rechargeable hybrid petrol version is scheduled for the end of 2019. Peugeot announces a sales target of 80,000 to 90,000 in Europe (manufactured in Mulhouse), of which 20% is gasoline and 20% is hybrid, plus 40,000 in China (manufactured in Wuhan).

Toyota Group Global Market 2017
The Toyota Group (Toyota-Daihatsu-Lexus) has released its sales figures for the year 2017. Global sales amounted to 10.15 million units (PC + LCV), a 2% increase compared to 2016. This rise is slightly lower than the worldwide growth of car sales for all brands  (+ 2.3%). The Toyota group has fallen from first place in 2015, and second place in 2016 behind Volkswagen, to third place in 2017, behind Renault-Nissan and Volkswagen.

Global sales of the Toyota Group in 2017 break down as follows:

1. The United States remains its largest market, with 2.43 million vehicles, or 24% of its worldwide sales.
2. Japan is its second largest market, with 2.33 million vehicles, or 23% of its global sales.
3. China is its third largest market, with 1.13 million vehicles, or 11% of its global sales.
4Europe is its fourth largest market, with 750,000 vehicles, or 7% of global sales.

These four markets account for 65% of the Toyota group's worldwide sales in 2017, which are divided into 8.65 million Toyota vehicles, 817,000  Daihatsu vehicles and 683,000 Lexus vehicles. Toyota's best-selling models in 2017 were Corolla (975,000 units), RAV4 (840,000 units) and Hilux (595,000 units).

Renault-Nissan Group Global Market 2017
The Renault-Nissan group (Renault-Dacia-Samsung-Nissan-Datsun-Infiniti-Mitsubishi-Lada) published its sales figures for the year 2017, in which Mitsubishi figures are consolidated for the first time. The group's worldwide sales amounted to 10.6 million vehicles (PC + LCV), an increase of 17% compared to 2016 when Mitsubishi was not yet consolidated (this brand represents 1 million vehicles) . It can be concluded that the Renault-Nissan group has overtaken the Volkswagen and Toyota groups mainly thanks to external growth (the acquisition of Mitsubishi).

The global sales of the Renault-Nissan group in 2017 break down as follows:

1. Europe remains its largest market, with 2.87 million vehicles, or 27% of its worldwide sales.
2. The United States is its second largest market, with 1.70 million vehicles, or 16% of its worldwide sales.

4. Japan is its fourth largest market, with 683,000 vehicles, or 6.5% of its global sales.

These four markets make up 63.5% of the Renault-Nissan group's global sales in 2017.

The group's best-selling models in 2017 were the Nissan Rogue / X-Trail (905,000 units), Nissan Qashqai (470,000 units), Dacia / Renault Sandero (445,000 units) and Nissan Bluebird (450 000 units).

Ford Group Global Market 2017
The Ford Group (Ford, Lincoln) has released its sales figures for the year 2017. Global sales amounted to 6.6 million vehicles, a decrease of 1.5% compared to 2016, which allowed Ford to get closer to the Hyundai-Kia group (where sales fell by 8%) without any particular effort. Ford sales could have increased slightly if the transition between old and new Fiesta had gone better and if the British market had not fallen (the Ford brand is by far the leader in this market), as the first consequence of Brexit.

Ford Group global sales in 2017 break down as follows:

1The United States is its largest market, with 2.58 million vehicles, or 39% of its worldwide sales.
2. Europe is its second largest market, with 1.35 million vehicles, or 20% of its worldwide sales.
3China is its third market, with 840,000 vehicles, or 13% of its worldwide sales.
4South America is its fourth largest market, with 370,000 vehicles, or 6% of its worldwide sales.

These four markets represent 78% of Ford's global sales in 2017, divided into 6.42 million Ford vehicles and 0.18 million Lincoln vehicles. The group's best-selling models in 2017 are the Ford F-Series pickups (1,070,000 units), Ford Focus (635,000 units) and Ford Kuga / Escape (630,000 units).

Hyundai-Kia Group Global Market 2017
The Hyundai-Kia group (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis) has released sales figures for the year 2017. Worldwide sales are at 7.25 million units, a decrease of 8% over 2016, due to a drop in sales in China. It is the only one of the top five manufacturers, with the GM group, to have a sales decline in 2017, especially since sales had already declined in 2016. Not benefiting from external growth (buyout of others manufacturers), the Hyundai-Kia Group can only rely on itself to develop.

Hyundai-Kia global 2017 sales break down as follows:

1. The United States is its largest market, with 1.28 million vehicles, or 18% of its global sales.
2. Korea is its second largest market, with 1.21 million vehicles, or 17% of its global sales.
3. China is its third largest market, with 1.14 million vehicles, or 16% of its global sales.
4. Europe is its fourth largest market, with 1 million vehicles, or 14% of its worldwide sales.

These four markets account for 65% of the Hyundai-Kia group's global sales in 2017, which include 4.47 million Hyundai vehicles (including Genesis) and 2.78 million Kia vehicles. The group's best-selling models in 2017 were the Hyundai Elantra (685,000 units), Hyundai Tucson (470,000 units), and Kia Sportage (395,000 units).
