Auto production in South Korea: no growth since 2010
- The volume of car production in South Korea (PC+LCV) has stagnated since 2010. It even fell in 2016 and 2017, registering a figure close to 4 million units, against 4.5 million in previous years.
- This stagnation followed by a decline is mainly due to the establishment of Hyundai-Kia Group factories on all continents, as the Japanese manufacturers had done in the 1980s. It is also due to the sharp decline in influence of GM Korea (whose production was halved between 2007 and 2017, from 1,000,000 to 500,000 annual units), due to the discontinuation of the Chevrolet brand in the European market, Ukraine and Russia, since almost all Chevrolet sold in these countries came from Korea.
- In 2017, the Hyundai-Kia group still retains its predominance in the Korean market (67.5% of registrations compared to 72.5% in 2007) and in terms of production (78% of Korean production compared to 69% in 2007).
- The decline in sales in the Korean market and the increase in its predominance in terms of production is explained by the strong growth of imports in this market (which has reduced the market share of Hyundai-Kia) and by the reduction of half of GM Korea's production. As for Renault-Nissan (Samsung) and Mahindra (Ssangyong), their low volumes can not threaten the future position of the Hyundai-Kia group.

Auto production in India close to 5 million units in 2017

Auto production in India close to 5 million units in 2017
- The volume of car production in India (PC+LCV) was almost 5 million vehicles in 2017, at 4.85 million units, which is a volume three times higher than in 2005.
- This steady growth is due not only to the growth of the Indian car market (which went from 1.75 million in 2005 to 4 million units in 2017), but also to the growth of exports (to Europe and Southeast Asia mainly) during this period. Nearly one million vehicles manufactured overall in India were exported in 2017, including 150,000 to Europe.
- By manufacturer, we observe that Suzuki-Maruti has experienced very strong growth since 2005 and consolidates its first place in the Indian market, in terms of sales and production. Suzuki-Maruti accounts for more than 43% of registrations and more than 35% of Indian production. The Tata group, once the second-largest Indian producer behind Suzuki-Maruti, has been experiencing significant difficulties since 2012, with successive new models often being resounding commercial failures, the most symbolic being the Tata Nano. Fortunately Tata survives thanks to its British luxury and utilities subsidiaries. Tata's second position has been taken over by Korea's Hyundai-Kia, which over the years has launched a range of economical models that perfectly match local demand.

Italy's car production returns in 2017 to its 2005 level

Italy's car production returns in 2017 to its 2005 level
- The volume of Italian automobile production (VP + VU) had fallen sharply between 1990 and 2013. From 2.2 million vehicles in 1989, Italian production gradually fell to just over 600,000 units in 2014. The explanation for this fall is that the brands Fiat, Alfa-Romeo and Lancia lost a lot of influence during this period, and also that the Fiat group has relocated part of its production to Poland and Turkey, which has led to several factory closures on Italian soil. We can add the non-replacement of the Fiat Punto whose production volume was divided by 10 between 2006 and 2017 and the non-replacement of Lancia models.
- In the same way as in France, the Italian government and the Italian companies agreed in the beginning of 2010 to stop the fall of the automobile production in Italy and to revive this production thanks to a vast program of relocation, launch of new SUVs and revival of premium brands.
- For example, the Fiat Panda produced in Poland was relocated to Italy in 2012. The arrival of compact SUVs Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500X at the Melfi site in 2014 also contributed significantly to the revival of production in Italy. Finally, the revival of the Alfa-Romeo and Maserati brands, accompanied this increase in automobile production in Italy.
- In 2017, the volume of Italian production returned to its level of 2005 (just over one million units).

Inovev expects 50,000 annual sales of the new Audi Q8
- Audi (a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group) unveiled its new high-end SUV, the Q8, which crowns the SUV range of the manufacturer currently composed of Q2, Q3, Q5, Q7.
- The Q8 is sort of the coupe version of the Q7. It is therefore competing with the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE coupe. It is 6cm shorter than the Q7 (4.99m against 5.05m), 3cm wider (2.00m against 1.97m) and 3cm lower (1.71m against 1.74m).
- The Q8 is a few months ahead of the future coupé versions of Q3 and Q5, logically called Q4 and Q6. The Q8 marks the continuation of a broad offensive of the manufacturer in the field of SUVs.
- Indeed, by 2022, Audi wants to offer eight variants of SUV on the Chinese market. Five of these eight future models will be produced locally and three will be imported from Europe (these will be the most upscale models: Q6, Q7, Q8). The Audi Q8 will be manufactured in Bratislava (Slovakia) alongside the Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg.
- The Q8, powered by a 340hp V6 3.0 petrol and a V6 diesel 3.0 V6 231hp and 286hp, will be launched simultaneously in China, Europe and North America, in the second half of 2018. It will be followed next year: a plug-in hybrid version (already available on the Q7) and a sporty SQ8 version with a diesel V8. 435hp. Inovev expects 50,000 annual sales, more than the BMW X6, which sells between 35,000 and 45,000 units a year.

Mercedes will build a second assembly plant in Hungary
- The Daimler Group has announced that it will double its production capacity at its Hungarian Kecskemet site by building a second assembly plant beside the first one.
- Kecskemet's first plant started operating at the end of 2012, soon after the launch of the third-generation Mercedes-Benz A Class and the second-generation B. Its capacity was set at 200,000 vehicles a year.
-The second plant, which should start its activity at the end of 2019, will have an identical capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year. The Kecskemet site should therefore produce up to 400,000 vehicles per year upon completion of the second plant.
- The Kecs kemet site should continue to produce B Class and CLA, as today, as well as new versions of the A-Class. It will also produce the future GLB which will be an SUV based on the future B-Class. It will also be used to manufacture EQ electric versions based on Class A, Class B, CLA and GLB, since Mercedes has announced that there will be no factory dedicated to the manufacture of electric cars, but that all the plants in the group would contribute to the manufacture of this type of car.
- In 2018, the Kecskemet plant will produce 175,000 cars (compared to 185,000 units in 2017), but the arrival of the new A, Class B Class, CLA, GLB (on MFA2 platform) should double this volume in a few years time.
