Automobile production in Germany stagnates at 6 million units since 2011
- Automobile production (PC+LCV ) in Germany has stagnated since 2011. Relocations to Hungary (Audi, Mercedes), to Slovakia (Volkswagen), to Poland (Volkswagen, Opel) or to Portugal (Volkswagen) could be part of the explanation for this stagnation.
- Another possible explanation is the gradual transfer of German car exports to China (mainly BMWs and Mercedes) and to North America (mainly Mercedes C-Class, Volkswagen Tiguan and Audi Q5).
- However, when we look at the figures by manufacturer, we see that the explanation is quite different because the Daimler (Mercedes) and BMW groups ‘volume has increased steadily since 2011.
- In reality, car production in Germany stagnates since 2011 not only because dieselgate has cut the production of the Volkswagen Group by a hundred thousand vehicles a year in 2016 and 2017, but mainly because of the continuous decline in the volume of production of US manufacturers in Germany, namely Ford and GM (Opel).
- Ford and GM lost 150,000 vehicles each between 2011 and 2017, while Daimler gained 240,000 and BMW 180,000 during the same period. For its part, Volkswagen lost 130,000 vehicles between 2011 and 2017.

The Toyota Group has sold nearly 11 million hybrid cars since 1997
- The Toyota Group (Toyota, Lexus) has sold nearly 11 million hybrid cars (90% Toyota and 10% Lexus) worldwide since 1997, when the first Prius was launched. This group thus accounts for 83% of cumulative sales of hybrid cars across all brands between 1997 and 2017.
- The most popular cars over this twenty-year period were the Toyota Prius (6.5 million units in all versions), which account for 64% of Toyota's global hybrid engine sales. Next are the Toyota Camry Hybrid (553,000 units), Toyota Corolla Hybrid (468,000 units), Lexus RX (373,000 units), Toyota Yaris (352,000 units), Toyota Auris (311,000 units), Lexus CT (233,000 units) ) and Toyota CHR (196,000 units). These seven models account for 24% of Toyota's hybrid-engine sales, and 92% when you include the Prius.
- Since 2013, the Toyota group has sold nearly 1.2 million hybrid cars each year, which is between 11% and 12% of its annual production during this period.
- In recent years, the Toyota Group has faced increased competition in the hybrid vehicle market, but also in the field of plug-in hybrids and electric cars, where Toyota is not very present. That's why Toyota has announced that it will expand its range to plug-in and 100% electric models.

The World's Top 15 Electric Cars (BEV + PHEV) in Q1 2018
- Of the 305,000 electric cars (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) sold worldwide in the first quarter of 2018, China has bought 123,000 units, Europe 87,000 units, the United States 55,000 units and Japan 20 000 units.
- Renault-Nissan group consolidates its first place as electric car manufacturer, in front of the Tesla, BYD, BMW and Volkswagen groups. Renault-Nissan is benefiting from the ramp up of the new Nissan Leaf, which became the world's best-selling electric car in the first quarter of 2018. At the same time, Tesla is having some difficulties in the manufacturing process of the new Model 3, which is only the 11th largest selling model in the world, whereas it should be in the Top 3.
- By brand, Tesla remains leader in front of BYD that it precedes by only 750 units . BMW is in third place, thanks to the i3 but also to its wide range of rechargeable hybrid models (Series 2, Series 3, Series 5, Series 7, X5). Nissan is fourth thanks to the Leaf. Then follows BAIC (which benefits from the success of the E-Series model, the world's second best-selling electric model) and Volkswagen (which has a wide range of plug-in hybrid models).
- By model, the Nissan Leaf takes the lead in electric car sales, thanks to the new generation introduced last year. Then follow the BAIC E-Series (sold exclusively in China), the Toyota Prius PHEV, the BYD Song (sold exclusively in China), the Tesla Model S, the JAC EV (sold exclusively in China) and the Tesla Model X.

Inovev forecasts production volume of 1,500 units per year of the new Rolls-Royce Cullinan
- Rolls-Royce (subsidiary of the BMW group) has unveiled its first SUV. This is the Cullinan that shares its platform with the future BMW X7 to be marketed at the end of the year.
- This model, which responds to a very strong global demand for SUVs, is launched as the most luxurious and expensive of all SUVs, since it will be on sale at a price of around 250,000 euros, while the Bentley Bentayga is at 215,000 euros and the Lamborghini Urus 205,000 euros.
- The Cullinan, which completes the Rolls-Royce range of up to now Phantom limousine, Ghost sedan, Wraith coupe and Dawn cabriolet, measures 5.34m in length, 40cm less than the Phantom but 20cm more than a Bentley Bentayga . The Cullinan is 2.16m wide and 1.84m high, so as much as a Range Rover and 9cm longer than a Bentley Bentayga. The manufacturer consciously avoided proposing an elephant-sized SUV ,to allow the vehicle to remain remains manageable in all circumstances. Its weight is nonetheless is slightly over 2.5 tons.
- The Cullinan is equipped with the 6.75 liter gasoline twin-turbo engine (developing 571hp).used on the other Rolls-Royce models This new SUV will be produced in Goodwood's Rolls-Royce factory. Inovev expects production volume of 1,500 units per year, i.e. nearly half of the brand's current production.

The Mitsubishi Pajero will not be replaced
- Details
The Mitsubishi Pajero will not be replaced
- Perhaps as one of the consequences of the acquisition of Mitsubishi Motors by Nissan, Mitsubishi announced that the Pajero will not be replaced. This "old-fashioned" SUV no longer corresponds to the global demand for less rustic and more versatile SUVs, and its sales have been halved over the past ten years, from 90,000 units in 2007 to 40 000 in 2017. Moreover, this model is redundant with the Nissan Patrol which is now part of the same group. The Patrol has evolved over time, and its sales volume (85,000 in 2017 against 25,000 in 2007) is well above that of Pajero. Last year, the Patrol sold twice as much as the Pajero.
- It seems that the Renault-Nissan group has decided to focus all its forces in this category of vehicles on the Nissan Patrol, which is expected to take over the Mitsubishi Pajero, to better compete with the Toyota Land Cruiser which totals 300,000 sales in 2017 ( compared with 265,000 in 2007) and which remains the best-selling SUV in this category.
- Mitsubishi will focus on its more modern and versatile SUVs, such as ASX, Eclipse Cross and Outlander.
- The Mitsubishi Pajero was launched in 1981 to compete with the Toyota Land Cruiser and the current generation (which should be discontinued in 2019) is the fourth whose commercialization began in 2006. This model is now a dozen years old, which is an advanced age for a motor vehicle.
