Inovev forecasts 30,000 sales in 2022 of the Audi Q4 E-Tron SUV
Audi has unveiled its battery electric C-segment SUV which shares the MEB platform with the Volkswagen ID 3 and ID 4. This 4.59 m long SUV is placed in terms of dimensions between the Q3 (4.49 m) and the Q5 (4.69m), that's why it's named Q4 E-Tron. This model will be available in classic and Sportback versions, as for the Q5 and E-Tron.

The E-Tron model is not at all in competition with the Q4 E-Tron because it is 4.90 m long and is much more expensive: 72,000 to 97,000 euros, while the Q4 E-Tron will be proposed in a price range between 42,000 and 53,000 euros for the standard version and between 44,000 and 55,000 euros for the Sportback version. It is to remind that a Volkswagen ID 3 is priced from 34,000 to 49,000 euros and an ID 4 from 39,000 to 54,000 euros.

The Audi Q4 E-Tron has a maximum range of 520 km according to the WLTP cycle, thanks to a battery of 52 kWh or 77 kWh. The model will be available in full Quattro version as an option (power equivalent to 300 hp, against 170 hp and 204 hp in rear-wheel drive version).

The Audi Q4 E-Tron is expected to be produced at the Zwickau (Germany) plant alongside the technically very similar Volkswagen ID 3 and ID 4. Given the continued sales growth of electric cars in the European market, the Audi Q4 E-Tron is expected to be produced in 10,000 units in 2021, 30,000 units in 2022 and 40,000 units in 2023. It is expected to reach 50,000 copies per year in the following years, requiring an increase of the production capacity of the Zwickau plant, which is currently set at 200,000 vehicles per year, the ID3 and ID4 representing 170,000 to 200,000 units per year both.

Toyota get nearly 5% of Isuzu capital
The Toyota group, the world's largest carmaker in 2020, is getting its hands on all the Japanese carmakers that were independent ten years ago. After the takeover of Daihatsu and Hino in the late 1960s (but Daihatsu became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota only since 2016), the Toyota group was taken by surprise when Mitsubishi was acquired by Nissan in 2016.

It was therefore pushing by taking a 5% of Mazda in 2017, then in August 2019 a 5% stake of Suzuki, then increased its participation in Subaru to 20% in September 2019. Finally in March 2021, Toyota has taken an almost 5% stake in Isuzu. The first Japanese carmaker has therefore united most of the Japanese automobile industry around it. Even if it is not a total control of the other Japanese carmakers, the Toyota group is involved in nearly 70% of the Japanese car market and its competitors are down to two, Honda and Nissan-Mitsubishi, two major carmakers that it will one day have little chance to control.

Isuzu produces and markets utility vehicles, primarily trucks and pick-ups. Its range is therefore quite in competition with Toyota (pick-up) and Hino (trucks), just as Suzuki is also a competitor of Daihatu, and Mazda and Subaru are also competitors of Toyota. Ultimately, this strategy could allow synergies in the sharing of components or even platforms. Toyota's move also helps lock down the Japanese auto industry and prevent any possibility of a takeover of a Japanese carmaker by another Japanese or foreign one.

The Chinese market became Tesla's first market
The Chinese market became the primary market for Tesla, the California BEV maker. In March 2021, Tesla registered 35,478 vehicles in China while its sales did not exceed 23,050 units in the United States and 23,652 units in Europe.

In the first quarter of 2021, Tesla registered almost as many cars in China (69,280 units) as in the United States (69,300 units), but as of April there is little doubt that sales in China will exceed those carried out in the United States. In addition, Tesla registered 30,683 units in Europe in the first quarter of 2021. No one would have imagined that the Chinese market would have become Tesla's number one market so quickly. The Californian carmaker inaugurated its Chinese plant only a year ago, and the Model 3 was immediately very successful.

Tesla thus represents 1.5% of the Chinese market in the first quarter of 2021, i.e. a share ten times lower than that of the Volkswagen group, but the carmaker remains the second electric car brand in China, thanks to its Model 3 (52,859 sales ) and Model Y (16,422 sales). The Wuling brand remains ahead, thanks to the success of the HongGuang Mini EV (96,674 sales) which could reach 400,000 sales for the whole of 2021, against 132,000 in 2020.

Finally, it should be noted that the market share in BEV and PHEV sales reached 21% for GM-Wuling, 14% for Tesla, 11% for BYD, 7% for SAIC MG-Roewe, 6% for Great Wall and 5% for NIO . These six carmakers occupy 64% of this specific market.

The Martorell plant may produce VW ID 1 and ID 2 and their rebranded versions
The Spanish plant of Martorell, which today produces Seat and Audi, will certainly produce the future small battery electric vehicles of the Volkswagen group, namely the ID 1 and ID 2 as well as their Seat and Skoda branded versions. These models of 4.00 m and 4.20 m long will be based on a new platform and will be launched from 2025. They participate to sales increase objective of the Volkswagen group,  estimated according to Inovev at a volume of 2 to 3 million units in 2030.

The Martorell plant is set to eventually produce 500,000 small BEVs per year from 2030. Today, this plant has a production capacity of 500,000 internal combustion cars per year. The Volkswagen group is therefore counting on the gradual decrease of the 500,000 thermal cars produced each year in Martorell and to offset it gradually with 500,000 electric cars by 2030. These models will be marketed at a price ranging between 20,000 and 30,000 euros. This strategy will allow Spain to become one of the major electric car production country in Europe.

In parallel to this strategy, the Volkswagen group has decided to invest directly in the creation and development (with the support of the Spanish authorities) of a network of public charging infrastructures. A figure of 350,000 urban and peri-urban public charging points by 2030 has been communicated. The Volkswagen group has indicated that it is awaiting support from the Spanish government and a clear commitment from the European Commission on this subject. The current Seat Mii, Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen Up electric will be discontinued this year, and will therefore not be replaced until 2025.

Inovev forecasts 200,000 units per year of the new Peugeot 308
Peugeot has unveiled the new generation of the 308, a C-segment sedan that theoretically rivals models from mainstream brands such as VW Golf, Renault Megane, Citroën C4, Ford Focus, Opel Astra, Hyundai i30, Kia Ceed and Fiat Tipo. But the carmaker indicates that they want to position the new 308 against the Audi A3, BMW 1 Series and Mercedes Class A, so a rather premium positioning.

No big change at the aesthetic level, the new 308 also uses the EMP2 platform of the previous generation (shared with the Peugeot 3008/4008 and 508) as well as its 1200 petrol engines (3 cylinders of 110 hp and 130 hp) and 1500 diesel (4 cylinders of 130 hp). But the big news is the arrival, firstly of the plug-in hybrid versions based on 1600 gasoline (180 hp and 225 hp) and secondly of a battery electric version which will be launched next year and will compete with the Volkswagen ID3 and the future Renault MeganeEV. However, this “e-308” will not use the e-VMP platform scheduled for 2023, but the current EMP2 platform.

The future Opel Astra will opt for the same electrification system, meaning not based on the e-VMP platform. In both cases, we are talking about a range of between 300 km and 400 km according to the WLTP cycle. The new Peugeot 308 (4.36m x 1.85m x 1.44m) will be produced in Mulhouse instead of Sochaux, benefiting from the transfer of the Peugeot 2008 from Mulhouse to the Vigo plant last year. Inovev forecasts 150,000 units produced in 2021 and then 200,000 units per year, including 10% to 15% of electric versions.
