Inovev predicts sales of 160 000 per year for the BMW X3
- BMW has unveiled the new generation of its X3 SUV (D segment). This new generation is lighter than the previous one, thanks to the use of the CLAR platform used by the recent 5 Series, 6 Series and 7 Series. This platform was designed for all BMW-rear wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles . It will therefore also be used on the future 3 Series, 4 Series and 8 Series as well as on the future X4, X5, X6 and X7 SUVs.
- The new X3, which is using the engines of the current generation, will be manufactured as previously on the US site in Spartanburg, South Carolina, alongside the X4, X5, X6 and future X7, at a rate of 160,000 units per year.
- The current generation was launched in 2010 and will be removed from the brand catalog in November 2017, therefore having a seven-year life cycle. The X4 coupe version will be replaced in 2018 (its life cycle will therefore not exceed four years). The new X3 will compete with the premium D segment SUVs, such as Audi Q5, Mercedes GLC, Volvo XC60, Jaguar F-Pace, Porsche Macan, Alfa-Romeo Stelvio, Lexus NX and DS 7 Crossback ...
- In 2016, BMW sold 155,000 X3, 151,000 of which were manufactured in Spartanburg, along with 165,000 X5s, 56,000 X4s and 38,000 X6s. The Spartanburg site, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, produced 410,000 SUVs last year, 115,000 of which were sold in Europe and 105,000 in the USA.

These two models will complete the OEM’s SUV range, which currently includes the F-Pace.
- The F-Pace, which became the most sold model at Jaguar in 2016 (66,000 sales), is an E-segment SUV based on the XF sedan platform (40,000 sales in 2016). It is produced on the Land Rover site in Solihull (United Kingdom).

The future Ford Focus for the US market will be imported from China
- The new generation of the Ford Focus which will be marketed in North America (USA, Canada, Mexico) from 2019 (the European version is due to be launched at the end of 2018), will be imported from China instead of Mexico ( a new plant located in San Luis Potosi or an existing plant located in Hermosillo) as originally planned. This announcement was made last month by the American manufacturer.
- In 2016, the Ford Focus was one of the best-selling sedans in the world (nearly 700,000 sales).
- It is currently produced in Europe (255,000 units in 2016), China (217,000 units), the United States (162,000 units), Argentina (39,000 units) and Russia (12,000 units). Each plant supplies its own market. Beginning in 2019, this situation is expected to change as China is expected to supply both the Chinese and the North American markets.
- China is expected to produce 400,000 Focus each year from 2019 (reaching a level already reached in 2013 and 2014), of which nearly half will be exported to North America.
- The Wayne, Michigan plant, which produces the Focus for the North American markets today, will stop this activity at the end of 2018 and concentrate on manufacturing the future Ranger (to be launched in 2019) and Bronco ( to be launced in 2020) light trucks. Production of the new Focus generation will start in Chongqing (China) in early 2019.

Mercedes has started construction of an assembly plant in Russia

Mercedes has started construction of an assembly plant in Russia
- Mercedes started construction of an assembly plant in Russia, in Essipovo (near Moscow). The German carmaker believes in the strong potential of the Russian market, especially in terms of Premium vehicles. This construction of a factory in Russia (the first for Mercedes) is effective at the moment when the Russian market is emerging from a crisis of four years, the consequence of both economic sanctions taken by Western countries against Russia (Ukraine and Crimea affairs) ,and the sharp drop in oil prices (following the revival of oil production in the United States).
- What is Mercedes‘ position on the Russian market? Mercedes sales in Russia have increased from 5,000 units in 2005 to 20,000 units in 2008 and 60,000 units in 2014. They have fallen to 50,000 units in 2015 and 43,000 in 2016, but in the context of the Russian market crisis. Mercedes' market share in Russia is now 3%. Mercedes became the first Premium brand sold in Russia, ahead of BMW, Audi and Lexus.
- The best-selling vehicles on this market are GLE, Sprinter, GLC, Class E and GLS. As for the Sprinter, it should be remembered that it is already manufactured in Russia since the second half of 2013 on the site of the Russian manufacturer GAZ, located in Nizhny Novgorod. The four other models (GLE, GLC, Class E, GLS) will , as of 2019, be assembled in the factory under construction in Essipovo. This site could assemble up to 30,000 vehicles per year.

Kia unveils the Stonic its B segment SUV

Kia unveils the Stonic its B segment SUV
- Korean carmaker Kia unveiled its B segment SUV, the Stonic, which is expected to gradually replace the B-segment MPV, the Venga, whose origins date back to 2010. Manufacturers are increasingly replacing their compact segment minivans B by segment B SUVs, in response to a sharp decline in compact MPV sales and a strong demand for compact SUVs. Thus, we saw Renault replace the Modus by the SUV Captur, Opel replace the Meriva by the SUV Crossland or Citroën replace the C3 Picasso by the C3 Aircross SUV. Peugeot replaced its 207 estate with the 2008 SUV and Seat replaced its Altea with the Ateca SUV.
- The new Stonic, by its dimensions (length: 4.14m), competes directly with the Renault Captur (4,12m), Peugeot 2008 (4,16m) and Nissan Juke (4,14m). It measures 7cm more than a Kia Venga and 34cm less than a Kia Sportage. For the moment, the Stonic (which is built on the Hyundai Kona platform) is made in Korea alongside the Hyundai Kona, but it could eventually take the place of the Venga on the assembly lines of Kia’s Zilina site in (Slovakia). Inovev expects a volume of 75,000 to 100,000 sales in Europe over a full year. In Korea, Kia has announced its intention to sell 50,000 Stonic per year. The Stonic's engines include the following: a 1.3-liter gasoline engine, a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, a 4-cylinder gasoline engine, a 177-hp turbocharged gasoline1.6 engine , and a 115 hp and 135 hp diesel-powered 1.6- 4cylinder engine.
