Merger of PSA and FCA : analysis (4/4)
- Under the aegis of PSA, the Fiat range is to be totally revised. Indeed, the current range of the Italian brand is both very incomplete and incoherent. The PSA group, which will take the responsibility of rebuilding the Fiat range, could be inspired by what it has done for Opel. After the elimination of the segment A sedans (Adam and Karl), the compact MPV (Zafira) and the convertible (Cascada), the new Opel range was rebuilt in the following way: a B-segment sedan (Corsa), a C-segment sedan (Astra), a D-segment sedan (Insignia), a B-segment SUV (Crossland), a C-segment SUV (Grandland), to which is added another B-segment SUV (Mokka) and light-duty SUVs ( Combo, Vivaro, Movano).
- Fiat, which has gradually eliminated its F-segment sedans (130 in 1977), E (Croma in 1996), D (Marea in 2007) and B (Punto in 2018) sees its current range to be reduced to the Fiat 500, the Fiat Panda and the Fiat Tipo whose platforms are old. This range is complemented by the Fiorino, Doblo, Talento and Ducato utilities, which represent a wider range than passenger cars. The glaring lack of investment under the Marchionne era was dramatic for the Fiat brand.
- The future Fiat range could therefore be composed as follows: an A-segment sedan (Fiat 500), a B-segment sedan (Opel Corsa base ... as between 2005 and 2018), a C-segment sedan (Opel Astra base) , a B-segment SUV (Fiat 500X), a C-segment SUV (Opel Grandland base) and existing utilities. Rebuilt thus, the range Fiat would be attractive again in a very short time, at the image of the range Opel which has transformed - under the aegis of PSA - very quickly.

Inovev forecasts 120,000 new Nissan Jukes per year
- After nine-years life (a very long time for an automobile), the first-generation Nissan Juke (B-segment SUV) will finally be replaced by a brand new generation that nevertheless retains the broad lines of the original model.
- The new Nissan Juke is however, larger than the previous one: 7cm (4.21m) longer, 3cm (1.80m)wider and 3cm (1.60m) higher. The car’s interior benefits from these increased dimensions, as does the boot, with 20% increased capacity.
- The new Juke is still 2cm shorter than the new Renault Captur and 9cm shorter than the new 2008 Peugeot, but 10cm longer than the Volkswagen T-Cross and 7cm longer than the Seat Arona.
- The new Juke is only available in a petrol version: a three-cylinder 1.0l engine developing 117 hp which is already used for the Renault Twingo, Clio, Captur and Nissan Micra. The manufacturer has eliminated diesel on this model (on a B-segment model it is not necessary) but a Plug-In hybrid engine will be available next year, as on the new Renault Captur which is in the same category.
- The new Nissan Juke will attempt (despite increased competition) to boost sales of the Nissan brand, which is experiencing significantly reduced sales in many markets, particularly due to the late replacement of this iconic model.
- According to our information, the Juke will continue to be manufactured at the British site in Sunderland, despite Britain's exit from the European Union. Inovev expects 120,000 units per year of the new Juke.

Mercedes wishes to renew the Citan utility vehicle
- A few months ago, Inovev indicated that certain agreements between Renault-Nissan and Daimler could be called into question, following the change of management at Daimler. First, the partnership between Renault and Smart on small A-segment cars will be discontinued. The future Renault Twingo scheduled for 2022 will be built on the Indian Kwid‘s platform (with the engine in the front) and no longer the Smart's platform (with the engine in the rear). Indeed, the Smart will no longer be produced in Europe, neither in two doors nor in four doors, as it will be produced in China, at Geely, in a new 100% electric generation.
- Then, the discontinuation of the Infiniti Q30/QX30 put an end to the technical agreements on C-segment compact cars between Nissan and Mercedes. The Mercedes Citan and X-Class SUVs derived from Renault and Nissan models are still in use.
- The future of the X-Class pickup remains unclear, but the case of the Citan has just been decided, with Mercedes choosing to continue working together with Renault Nissan on this type of vehicle, rather than developing a van, whose sales volumes will not exceed 25,000 units per year, on their own.
- The future Mercedes Citan will therefore take over the platform of the future Renault Kangoo expected in 2020 and which will be based on the future Dacia Dokker. However, its bodywork will be different from that of the Kangoo, because the manufacturer believes that the main handicap of the current generation of the Citan was that its body was too close to that of the Renault Kangoo. In addition, the future Citan (scheduled for 2021) will be available for the first time in a 100% electric version, like the Kangoo has been since 2011.

Inovev forecasts 100,000 new Hyundai i10s per year
- Car manufacturers are gradually moving away from small A-segment cars on the European market, as these models account for less than 10% of the European market year after year.
- Ford has ended the Ka+ ‘s career, Opel has discontinued the Adam and the Karl, Smart will stop marketing Fortwo and Forfour in two years' time and Lancia will probably stop marketing Ypsilon next year. Finally, Peugeot and Citroën announced the upcoming end of the 108 and C1. However, Korean manufacturers Hyundai and Kia are continuing to produce their entry-level models, the i10 and Picanto. Hyundai has just renewed its i10 model produced in Turkey.
- The new generation is presented in a completely revised form but which tends to be closer to the Kia Picanto (marketed since 2017) with which it shares its platform. The new Hyundai i10 is therefore presented as a small five-door sedan with slightly: increased dimensions : 3.67m long (+2cm compared to the previous generation), 1.68m wide (+2cm) and 1.52m high (+2cm). In fact, it is a little larger ( a few centimeters ) than the Kia Picanto.
- The new Hyundai i10 will have a 3-cylinder 1.0 l petrol engine developing 67 hp. No diesel or hybrid engines are planned for this model. The i10 sold in Europe will still be manufactured at the Turkish Izmit site, alongside the Hyundai i20 (B segment ). Inovev expects 100,000 annual sales of the new i10 produced in Turkey.
- The Hyundai i10 is also produced in India for the local market.

Inovev forecasts 40,000 new Mercedes GLE coupes per year
- Mercedes unveiled in Frankfurt the new generation of its E-segment SUV coupe, called the GLE coupe, but which could have had a specific name like its competitors, the BMW X6 and Audi Q8. That is why Inovev is publishing an analysis on this model, as for the Porsche Cayenne coupé.
- The GLE coupe is part of the still quite rare category of coupé SUVs, i.e. SUVs with a low roof and a fastback style in the rear section. These models are currently mainly German (Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche) and can be considered as the most sporty versions of the SUVs.
- These top-of-the-range vehicles are proving to be quite successful, with a volume of around 40,000 units per year for the first-generation Mercedes GLE coupé, 40,000 units for the BMW X6 or 50,000 units for the Audi Q8.
- The new generation Mercedes GLE coupé takes over the platform, engines and part of the GLE's bodywork launched in November 2018. It has a 6 cylinder 3.0 l. petrol engine of 390 hp and 6 cylinder diesel engine of 272 hp and 330 hp. An AMG V8 5.3 petrol version will be available next year and a plug-in hybrid version will follow.
