Market balance Japan 9 months 2022
- The Japanese automotive market (PC+LUV) recorded very similar registration volumes in 2020, 2021 and 2022, despite the Covid 19 and semiconductor crises. It seems that Japanese manufacturers suffered less from the semiconductor crisis than European and American manufacturers.
- In 2020, the registration volume reached 4.6 million units and 4.4 million units in 2021, so the impact of the crises was very small. However, a slight decline of 5% can be observed between 2020 and 2021.
- The first half of 2020 accounted for 2.2 million units and the second half for 2.4 million units.
- The first half of 2021 included 2.4 million units and the second half included 2.0 million units, with the second half weakening between September and December.
- The first half of 2022 accounted for 2.1 million units, slightly less than in 2020 and 2021, but the third quarter returned to 2021 levels at 1.0 million units, compared with 1.2 million units in the third quarter of 2020.
- The year could end with a volume of 4.2 million sales, which would represent a further decline of 5%, although the Japanese market will record a decline of 10% in the first nine months of 2022, in line with the decline in Europe and lower than the decline in the U.S. (-12.7%). During this period, 98% will be accounted for by vehicles with internal combustion engines or HEVs, 1% by BEVs and 1% by PHEVs.
