Renault-Nissan Group Global Market 2017
The Renault-Nissan group (Renault-Dacia-Samsung-Nissan-Datsun-Infiniti-Mitsubishi-Lada) published its sales figures for the year 2017, in which Mitsubishi figures are consolidated for the first time. The group's worldwide sales amounted to 10.6 million vehicles (PC + LCV), an increase of 17% compared to 2016 when Mitsubishi was not yet consolidated (this brand represents 1 million vehicles) . It can be concluded that the Renault-Nissan group has overtaken the Volkswagen and Toyota groups mainly thanks to external growth (the acquisition of Mitsubishi).

The global sales of the Renault-Nissan group in 2017 break down as follows:

1. Europe remains its largest market, with 2.87 million vehicles, or 27% of its worldwide sales.
2. The United States is its second largest market, with 1.70 million vehicles, or 16% of its worldwide sales.
3. China is its third largest market, with 1.48 million vehicles, or 14% of its global sales.
4. Japan is its fourth largest market, with 683,000 vehicles, or 6.5% of its global sales.

These four markets make up 63.5% of the Renault-Nissan group's global sales in 2017.

The group's best-selling models in 2017 were the Nissan Rogue / X-Trail (905,000 units), Nissan Qashqai (470,000 units), Dacia / Renault Sandero (445,000 units) and Nissan Bluebird (450 000 units).

Hyundai-Kia Group Global Market 2017
The Hyundai-Kia group (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis) has released sales figures for the year 2017. Worldwide sales are at 7.25 million units, a decrease of 8% over 2016, due to a drop in sales in China. It is the only one of the top five manufacturers, with the GM group, to have a sales decline in 2017, especially since sales had already declined in 2016. Not benefiting from external growth (buyout of others manufacturers), the Hyundai-Kia Group can only rely on itself to develop.

Hyundai-Kia global 2017 sales break down as follows:

1. The United States is its largest market, with 1.28 million vehicles, or 18% of its global sales.
2. Korea is its second largest market, with 1.21 million vehicles, or 17% of its global sales.
3. China is its third largest market, with 1.14 million vehicles, or 16% of its global sales.
4. Europe is its fourth largest market, with 1 million vehicles, or 14% of its worldwide sales.

These four markets account for 65% of the Hyundai-Kia group's global sales in 2017, which include 4.47 million Hyundai vehicles (including Genesis) and 2.78 million Kia vehicles. The group's best-selling models in 2017 were the Hyundai Elantra (685,000 units), Hyundai Tucson (470,000 units), and Kia Sportage (395,000 units).

Inovev predicts production of 350,000 units per year of new Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner, Opel Combo
The PSA group will unveil the new generation of Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Partner vans at the Geneva Motor Show, as well as that of the Opel Combo, which abandons the Fiat Doblo platform to use that of those PSA models.

For Citroën and Peugeot, it is the third generation that succeeds those of 1996 and 2008. For Opel, it is the fifth generation that succeeds those of 1986, 1994, 2002 and 2011.

The three new models are built on the same PSA EMP2 platform and share many body parts, but their front end is specific. They are equipped with the same engines (1200 gasoline of 110hp and 130hp, 1500 diesel of 75hp, 100hp and 130hp) and will be produced in the same European factories (that of Vigo in Spain and that of Mangualde in Portugal) at the rate of 350 000 units annually,  with 250,000 in Vigo and 100,000 in Mangualde.

The new models measure 4.40m and will be available in a new extended version of plus 35cm (or 4.75m) that did not exist on the current Citroën and Peugeot models but existed on the former Opel Combo and Fiat Doblo. On the "passenger transport" version, the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Opel Combo will therefore be available in 5 or 7 seats, depending on the length of their wheelbase. The three new models will be available from September 2018 and an electric powered version will be added in 2019.

VW Group Global Market 2017
The VW Group (Volkswagen-Audi-Seat-Skoda-Porsche-Bentley-Lamborghini-Bugatti) has published its sales figures for 2017. Worldwide sales amounted to 10.54 million light vehicles (PC+LCV), an increase of 4% compared to 2016. This increase is higher than the worldwide growth of car sales for all brands (+ 2.3%). The VW group has remained at the top of the world's manufacturers by including heavy-duty vehicles (MAN-Scania), but if we only consider light-duty vehicles (PC+ LCV), it is second behind Renault-Nissan.

VW Group 2017 sales break down as follows:

1. Europe is its largest market, with 4.1 million vehicles, or 39% of its worldwide sales.
2. China is its second largest market, with 4.0 million vehicles, or 38% of its worldwide sales.
3. The United States is its third largest market, with 625,000 vehicles, or 6% of its worldwide sales.

These three markets make up 83% of the VW group's worldwide sales in 2017 (compared to 86% in 2016), which are divided into 6.23 million Volkswagen vehicles, 1.88 million Audi vehicles, 1.20 million Skoda vehicles, 0.47 million Seat vehicles and 0.25 million Porsche vehicles. The group's best-selling models in 2017 were the VW Golf (925,000 units), the VW Tiguan (745,000 units), the VW Polo (585,000 units) and the VW Jetta (550,000 units).

South African Car Market (PC + LUV) 2017
The South African automotive market (PC + LUV) is very cyclical. After having increased between 2003 and 2006, it declined between 2007 and 2009, then increased again between 2010 and 2013, then decreased again between 2014 and 2016. In 2017, it went back up (+2, 0%), with a volume of 530,000 units, compared to 520,000 in 2016. In fact, this market has never managed to regain or exceed its record level of 2006 (650,000 units). The return to growth has nevertheless been very clear since the summer of 2017. It must be added, however, that the month of December has fallen back into the red, and the month of January 2018 shows no real improvement.

The share of light trucks (SUV, MPV, pick-up) is one of the largest in the world since it exceeds 79% in 2017, against 77% in 2016. Five pick-ups are also traditionally in the top 10 sales. In this, the South African market is similar to other African markets (except Maghreb) where pickups account for the vast majority of sales.

The leader of the South African market remains the Toyota group (23.3% market share, a third of which is the Hilux pick-up), ahead of the Volkswagen (16.5% market share), Renault-Nissan (14.0%), Ford (13.4%) and Hyundai-Kia (10.0%) groups. The other manufacturers are far behind, since they do not exceed 4% of market share each. The biggest increase is that of the Renault-Nissan group (+ 24.5%), thanks to the success of the recently launched Kwid.
