Context

Audi, which has been producing cars in China through its partnership with FAW since the early 2000s, has seen its sales decline in the country since 2023. The German carmaker saw its sales fall from 667,000 units in 2023 to 610,000 in 2024 and 585,000 in 2025.
Even though this decline is not very significant compared to that of its direct competitors BMW and Mercedes, it raises questions for the carmaker, which now intends to implement a different strategy in China to try to revive its sales.
Audi is collaborating with SAIC to design and market new all-electric models, such as the E5 sedan and the E7X SUV, while abandoning its traditional design with the iconic four-ring grille. This venture is risky, as it risks blurring the brand's image. Sales of the E5 sedan remain below the carmaker's targets.
