- This situation is the result of relocations of small models since the beginning of the 2000s (Renault Twingo, Renault Clio, Renault Captur, Peugeot 208, Peugeot 2008, Citroën C3, Citroën C3 Aircross) and even medium category models (Renault Mégane, Renault Kadjar, Citroën C4). Added to this was a policy of producing upper segment models in China (Citroën C5X, DS 9) and a collapse in the sales of models such as the Renault Talisman, as well as C-segment MPVs such as the Renault Scénic. or from the D-segment like the Renault Espace.
- In this context, the Renault brand has gradually become few produced in France, except for light utility vehicles (Kangoo, Trafic, Master) which constitute the bulk of its production. The carmaker produced 310,000 vehicles in France in 2022, including 180,000 LUVs and 130,000 passenger cars. In an attempt to reverse the trend, the carmaker has announced that all of its battery electric vehicles will be produced in France, which represents a potential of 400,000 units in 2025 and 800,000 in 2030.
