Inovev forecasts 200,000 new BMW 1 Series per year
- BMW unveiled the new generation of the 1 Series (C-segment sedan) that competes with the Mercedes A-Class, Audi A3, Volvo V40, Lexus CT and Alfa Giulietta, but not the Infiniti Q30 which is ending its career this month.
- This new 1 Series becomes a front-wheel drive (the old ones were all rear wheel drive), as it is built on the UKL platform dedicated to front-wheel drive, as are the Mini, and the BMW Active Tourer, Gran Tourer, X1 and X2.
- The new 1 Series is now only available in a 5-door version, as the 3-door version has been cancelled. Most manufacturers are removing the 3-door versions from their catalogs.
- The new Series 1 is as long as the previous one (4.32m), but 3cm wider (1.80m) and 1cm higher (1.43m) while manufacturers are generally reducing the height of their sedans. On the other hand, the wheelbase is 2cm shorter than the old model (2.67m), because it is based on that of the BMW Active Tourer, X1 and X2.
- The 1 Series engines are based on the previous model: they are the 3 cylinder 1.5-litre 140 hp petrol engines, 4 cylinder 2.0-litre 300 hp petrol engines, 3 cylinder 1.5-litre 116 hp diesel engines and 4 cylinder 2-litre diesel engines of 150 hp or 190 hp. There are currently no plans for a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or 100% electric version. However, a 4-door three-box version could be proposed at a later date to counter the 4-door Mercedes A Class Sedan. The BMW 1 Series will be produced at the German site in Regensburg as before. Inovev expects 200,000 units per year of this new model.

The evolution of European exports between 2005 and 2018

The evolution of European exports between 2005 and 2018
- European passenger car exports fell sharply in 2018, mainly due to the decline in the Chinese and Turkish markets, which caused European production to lose 213,000 vehicles last year.
- Including the US, Swiss and Russian markets, declining European exports caused European production to lose 260,000 vehicles last year.
- In total, European exports in 2018 fell by 3.6% compared to 2017, for a volume of 5.4 million units, against 5.6 million in 2017.
- The top five European export markets (outside the European Union) consisted in 2.32 million units in 2018, compared to 2.58 million in 2017 and 2.64 million in 2016.
- This volume, which has been in constant decline since 2016, makes up 44% of total European exports (outside the European Union) compared to 46% in 2017.
- The United States remains by far the largest export market, with 1.15 million vehicles in 2018, ahead of China (545,000 vehicles), Turkey (291,000 vehicles), Switzerland (254,000 vehicles) and Russia (113,000 vehicles).
- Intra-European flows, i.e. exports from one EU country to another EU country, account for the bulk of European exports.
- Inovev estimates them at around 9 million units in 2018.

Inovev forecasts 300,000 new Opel Corsa per year

Inovev forecasts 300,000 new Opel Corsa per year
- The PSA group has unveiled the new generation of the Opel Corsa (B-segment sedan), which is now based on the Peugeot 208's CMP platform, and no longer on the old Fiat Punto platform. This new model competes with the Peugeot 208 and Citroën C3 of the PSA group, but also with the Renault Clio, Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, Audi A1, Seat Ibiza, Skoda Fabia, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Micra, Hyundai i20 and Kia Rio. The Fiat-Chrysler group's competing models have all disappeared since production of the Fiat Punto and Alfa-Romeo Mito ceased in the second half of last year.
- This sixth generation of the Opel Corsa will be the first to benefit from a 100% electric engine (which should constitute 15% of the model's sales, as for the Peugeot 208), in addition to the combustion engines used in the equivalent models at Peugeot and Citroën: a 3 cylinder 1.2 petrol (75hp, 100hp or 130hp) and a 4 cylinder 1.5 diesel (100hp).
- All versions of the new Opel Corsa (except the 3-door versions which are being cancelled ) will be produced at the Spanish site in Zaragoza (while they were previously produced at two different sites: Zaragoza and Eisenach). This decision will lead to the transfer of the Opel Mokka to the French site in Poissy as early as 2020, i.e. when the new generation of the Opel Mokka is launched (today 50% of the Mokka are manufactured in Zaragoza and 50% at the GM site in Korea).
- Inovev expects 300,000 units per year of the new Opel Corsa.

End of production of the Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot Ion
- Details
End of production of the Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot Ion
- The PSA group has decided to stop manufacturing the Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot Ion, which have been its only sedans with 100% electric motors since 2010. These two A-segment sedans were derived from the electric Mitsubishi i-Miev. All three models were manufactured in the same Japanese factory in Mizushima, which belongs to Mitsubishi. In total, 24,000 Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot Ion cars were sold between 2010 and 2019.
- But since the Mitsubishi Motors brand was acquired by Nissan in 2016, it could be assumed that the careers of the Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot Ion would end. It was not until the launch in 2019 of PSA's new 100% electric sedans (which this time have nothing to do with Mitsubishi) that the decision was taken to stop manufacturing the Citroën C-Zero and Peugeot Ion. The commercial career of the Opel Ampera-e (GM-designed) is also expected to end at the same time.
- PSA's new 100% electric sedans are the Peugeot e-208 and Opel e-Corsa, which will be launched in the coming months, and the DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, which has just been launched.
- In addition to these 100% electric sedans, the PSA group will soon be marketing the recent Citroën Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Opel Combo in new electric versions. These N1-1 segment utility vehicles will be followed by the electric variants of the Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert and Opel Vivaro. These N1-2 segment utility vehicles will themselves be followed by the electric variants of the Citroën Jumper, Peugeot Boxer and Opel Movano, which are N1-3 segment utility vehicles.

After the I.D. 3 and I.D. 1, Volkswagen announces the launch of the I.D. 2

After the I.D. 3 and I.D. 1, Volkswagen announces the launch of the I.D. 2
- After announcing the upcoming launch of the I.D. 3 (2020) and I.D. 1 (2022), the Volkswagen group announced that its B-segment electric car, i.e. the VW Polo and VW T-Cross segment, could be launched in 2023 on the MEB platform that all future electric models of the Volkswagen group will share.
- This model, which will probably be named I.D. 2, will be the third major part in the Volkswagen group's electric car line-up, enabling it to sell one million electric cars per year between 2025 and 2030, half of them in China and the other half divided between Europe and the United States.
- This new model, which will be in the manufacturer's range between the I.D. 1 (20,000 euros) and the I.D. 3 (40,000 euros) should be manufactured at the German site in Zwickau or at the German site in Emden. Its price could be around 30,000 euros.
- Unlike I.D. 1, the I.D. 2 model should also be manufactured in China, at the Anting or Foshan site, as well as at the Czech site of Mlada Boleslav, which will produce the Skoda and Seat badged versions. These two models are expected to gradually replace the current Skoda Fabia and Seat Ibiza, while being entirely electric.
- The manufacturer has not provided sales targets for these future B-segment models, but given that the Volkswagen branded model will be produced in China, it is likely that the sales volume for all three models will exceed 300,000 units per year.
