Citroën unveils the new generation of the C3 (segment B)
- Citroën unveiled the third generation of the sedan C3 (B segment). This new C3 is 5cm longer(3,99m) and 4cm lower (1,48m) than the previous generation launched in 2009. The new C3 uses the PF1 platform of the Peugeot 208, because at the time of its development, the CMP1 platform was not yet finalized. The CMP1 platform will be used on the next generation of the C3 (scheduled for 2022).
- The new C3 comes out equipped with the most recent 3 and 4 cylinders engines mounted on Peugeot 208:
petrol 1.0l - 68hp, 1.2l - 82ch/110hp and diesel 1.6l - 75hp/100hp.
petrol 1.0l - 68hp, 1.2l - 82ch/110hp and diesel 1.6l - 75hp/100hp.
- It will be produced in Trnava in Slovakia and not in Poissy in France. The Trnava plant has now a capacity of 400,000 vehicles per year. It will produce 250,000 Peugeot 208 and 150,000 Citroën C3 annually. In 2015, 240 000 Peugeot 208 and 130 000 Citroen C3 were sold. These figures highlight that the Trnava plant capacity could be saturated in 2017, especially if European market continues to increase. It should then be needed to increase the capacity of the plant.
- The arrival of the Citroen C3 in Trnava has already triggered the transfer of production of the new C3 Picasso to the GM plant in Zaragoza, Spain (the new C3 Picasso will be unveiled this summer). Opel Meriva and Citroen C3 Picasso now share Indeed now the same PF1 platform. Both models will be manufactured at the factory in Zaragoza.
