Imports accounted for only 6% of the Chinese market in early 2015
- Automotive imports accounted for only 6% of the Chinese market in the first two months of 2015. Unsurprisingly, the rate is lower than those registered in other major world markets (excluding Japan).
- In the first two months of the year, the brands that have imported the largest number of vehicles were mostly Premium brands, representing 2/3 of imports.
- By model, it is observed that imports do not supplement models already produced in-China , but they are models not produced in China. In the first two months of the year, the ten most imported models are the Subaru Forester, Jeep Compass, Lexus ES, Porsche Cayenne, Toyota Land Cruiser, Peugeot 4008, Mercedes M-Class, BMW X3, Renault Koleos and BMW 7 series. Of these 10 models, 8 are SUV and 2 are sedans (high end).
- Of all the imported models, 60% were SUVs. Other models (40% of imported models) were distributed as follows: C segment (31% imported models), E segment (26%), F segment (20%), D segment (13%), B segment (7%) and A segment (3%). Compared to the overall market, SUVs and F segment vehicles are overrepresented in imports.
