Australia Automotive Market ( PC+LCV ) in 2016
The Australian automotive market (PC + LCV) grew slower in 2016 (+ 2% compared to 2015), but set a new record of sales at 1.18 million units. This market is expected to exceed 1.2 million units for the first time in its history in 2017, while at the same time the Australian automotive industry will have completely disappeared, after the  closing of the last Ford, GM and Toyotafactories.

The Australian automotive market will thus be fully supplied through imports from Asia, America and Europe,  so local production will have no impact on the evolution and volume of this market. The level of the Australian market is equivalent to that of Spain but  Australia has half the population of   Spain (23.3 million compared to 47 million). Therefore the car ownership rate in Australia is twice as high as in Spain. Manufacturers for the most part saw their sales increase in 2016, except GM, VW and FCA. Toyota (223,000 sales, + 1%) ahead of Hyundai-Kia (144,000 sales, + 6.2%), Mazda (118,000 sales, + 3.7%), GM Holden (94 000  sales, -8,4%), VW (91,000 sales, -2.1%), Ford (81,000 sales, + 15.3%) and Renault-Nissan (77,000 sales, + 0.6%).

The best-selling models in 2016 are the Toyota Hilux (42,000), Toyota Corolla (40,000), Hyundai i30 (38,000), Ford Ranger (37,000), Mazda 3 (36,000), Toyota Camry ), Holden Commodore (25,000) and Mazda CX5 (24,000).
