Renault adds a fourth SUV to its range: the new Koleos

Renault has added a fourth SUV to its range: the new Koleos, which uses the platform of the Nissan X-Trail and joins a range already containing the Captur, Kaptur and Kadjar. The new Koleos is the largest of Renault's SUV range (4.67 m), and will be manufactured both in South Korea (by Renault-Samsung) and in China (by Renault-Dongfeng).

The name Koleos has been retained as the previous generation of this model (2007-2016) was the best selling Renault model  in China over the last ten years. It will be sold in China and Europe and will be the crowning piece of a Renault range which already contains many top-end vehicles (Talisman, Espace).

In China, it will be the second model produced by Dongfeng, after the Kadjar, which was launched at the start of the year.

It will be a global competitor among segment D SUVs alongside the Nissan X-Trail (Rogue), Audi Q5, BMW X3, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Volvo XC60, Jaguar F-Pace, Mercedes GLC, Mitsubishi Outlander, Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento.

400 000 units of the older Koleos have been manufactured, with 200 000 of them being sold in China, 100 000 in Europe and 50 000 in Korea. The new Koleos aims to surpass this figure within five years of sales, which works out to a minimum rate of 80 000 vehicles per year.

It will be easier for it to meet or even surpass this level, as it will be manufactured at not one, but two sites, unlike the old Koleos. The Samsung-branded version should be unveiled soon.
