The breakdown of imports to the United States in 2013
- Imports (PC + LCV) in the United States represented 6.16 million vehicles in 2013, and have had a tendency to increase in 2014. We expect an increase in imports of 4.3% in accordance with a global market up by over 5%.
- In 2013, imports to the United States consisted of the following:
- 1 820 000 vehicles from Canada (29% of imports), 1 605 000 from Japan (26% of imports), 1 415 000 from Mexico (23% of imports), 1 030 000 coming from Europe (28 countries, 17% of imports) and 290 000 vehicles from Korea (5% of imports). These imports accounted for 39% of all sales in the US, which reached 15 640 000 vehicles last year. More than half of imports (52%) come from the NAFTA region (Canada and Mexico) and this share doesn’t seem to vary in 2014.
- By manufacturer, the largest importers in 2013 were Toyota (1 068 000 vehicles), GM (818 000), Ford (634 000), Fiat-Chrysler (581 000), Volkswagen (483 000), Hyundai-Kia (476 000), Renault-Nissan (433 000), Honda (383 000), BMW (300 000), Mazda (284 000), Subaru (254 000) and Daimler (251 000). GM, Ford and Fiat-Chrysler vehicles were essentially imported from Canada and Mexico (countries traditionally used for US offshoring), while other manufacturers have their vehicles imported from all regions of the world.
