- The Jaguar Land Rover Group (subsidiary of Tata Motors) announced that it will produce the new Land Rover Discovery at its plant in Halewood sometime during the summer 2015. This plant currently manufactures the Land Rover Freelander and Evoque.
- The Halewood plant produced just over 180 000 vehicles in 2013, for an installed capacity of 200 000 units per year.
- In order to produce the future Discovery, the manufacturer is going to release extra capacity in Halewood by reducing the production of both the Freelander and the Evoque, which will be produced in China for the local market (in partnership with the Chinese manufacturer Chery). Therefore they will no longer be exported from Halewood to China as of late 2015 (30 000 units in 2013).
- The Halewood plant will have a capacity of 50 000 units per year in order to produce the future Discovery, before the model can be manufactured in China for the local market.
- The Discovery will be marketed during the course of 2015. It will be the first in a series of new various Discovery models inspired by the Discovery Vision Concept that was presented at this year's New York Motor Show.
- As for the Freelander (segment C SUV) which dates back to 2006, the manufacturer has not yet released its replacement date.
