The share of SUVs by carmaker and by region in 2022
- In the global market, SUVs have taken an increasing share in the global market since the early 2000s.
§ In China, this type of vehicle represents 47% of the market PC+LUV in 2022 (compared to 41% in 2017).
§ In the United States, SUVs represent 55% of the market PC+LUVin 2022 (compared to 42% in 2017).
§ In Europe, they represent 46% of the market PC+LUVin 2022 (compared to 30% in 2017).
- In terms of volumes, China represents 11.16 million SUVs sold in 2022, the United States 7.63 million units and Europe 5.21 million units. Japan represents only 820 000 units and the rest of the world represents a volume comparable to the United States one, which totals more than 32 million SUVs sold worldwide in 2022 (compared to 27.5 million units in 2017). Given the offer developed by carmakers, it is likely that the volume of SUVs will continue to increase in the short term worldwide. The volume of SUV registrations should therefore increase to 35 million units per year worldwide within one or two years. One question relates to SUVs in Europe. Will their growth not be stopped from 2025?
