The Most Produced B Segment Car in the World in 2016
- The global market for B-segment vehicles represents 12.0 million units in 2016 compared to 12.5 million units in 2015.
- The most produced segment B car in 2016 was, as for several years, the Volkswagen Polo.
- The current generation (launched in 2009) is the fifth generation of the model whose origins go back to 1975 (at the time it was a rebadged Audi 50). The sixth generation is scheduled for the end of 2017.
- The Polo has gradually become one of the best-selling cars in Europe (300,000 sales in 2016), China (172,000 sales) and Russia (48,000 sales). It is also sold in India (22,000 sales) and in South Africa.
- 601,000 units were produced worldwide in 2016. The current production sites of the Volkswagen Polo are:
• Pamplona (Spain) produced 323,000 units in 2016.
• Shanghai (China) produced 178,000 units.
• Chakan (India) produced 52,000 units.
• Kalouga (Russia) produced 48,000 units.
- The competitors of the Volkswagen Polo are mainly segment B sedans of general manufacturers such as Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris, Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Opel Corsa.
