The Most Produced B Segment Car in the World in 2016
The global market for B-segment vehicles represents 12.0 million units in 2016 compared to 12.5 million units in 2015.

The most produced segment B car in 2016 was, as for several years, the Volkswagen Polo.

The current generation (launched in 2009) is the fifth generation of the model whose origins go back to 1975 (at the time it was a rebadged Audi 50). The sixth generation is scheduled for the end of 2017.

The Polo has gradually become one of the best-selling cars in Europe (300,000 sales in 2016), China (172,000 sales) and Russia (48,000 sales). It is also sold in India (22,000 sales) and in South Africa.

601,000 units were produced worldwide in 2016. The current production sites of the Volkswagen Polo are:

• Pamplona (Spain) produced 323,000 units in 2016.
• Shanghai (China) produced 178,000 units.
• Chakan (India) produced 52,000 units.
• Kalouga (Russia) produced 48,000 units.

The competitors of the Volkswagen Polo are mainly segment B sedans of general manufacturers such as Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris, Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Opel Corsa.
