Electrical Vehicle Sales in Europe in 2016 by Country
The United Kingdom is the leading country in terms of electrified passenger cars, in particular thanks to a strong demand for hybrid models (HEV and PHEV). This market totals 87,000 sales of electrified vehicles in 2016, against 71,000 in 2015.

France is in second place, with 80,000 sales in 2016 compared with 79,000 in 2015, although the electric models (BEV) are somewhat successful (notably thanks to the Renault Zoé, which has 12,000 sales).

Norway (62,000 sales in 2016 versus 45,000 in 2015) is third, thanks to the notable success of electric vehicles (BEVs) and rechargeable hybrids (PHEVs). This market is the leading European market for electric vehicles and the second largest European market for rechargeable hybrids.

Germany (59,000 sales in 2016 compared to 46,000 in 2015) is fourth, while it is the first for all engines combined. The German clientele still largely prefers models with thermal engines.

Italy (47,000 sales in 2016 versus 27,000 in 2015) and Spain (34,000 sales in 2016 versus 21,000 in 2015) also  score well , given the size of their market,. The Netherlands (34,000 sales in 2016 compared with 59,000 in 2015), on the other hand,  are underperforming, notably due to higher vehicle taxes.
