Renault group sales exceeded those of PSA Group in the first half 2016
- During the first half of 2016, the Renault Group (Renault, Dacia, Samsung) sold more vehicles worldwide than PSA (Peugeot-Citroen-DS) with1,567,000 units against 1 540,000.
- The gap between the two carmakers had already narrowed from 700 000 units in 2005 down to 170,000 in 2015, partly because PSA had to withdraw from the Iranian market. However, PSA had still kept the advantage in 2014-2015, thanks to the success of the new Peugeot 308.
- In 2016, the simultaneous launch and success of new Kadjar models, Mégane, Talisman, Renault Espacecreated a Renault group growth of 13.4% in first half 2016 compared to first half 2015.
- At the same moment sales of PSA stagnated (0.3% in the first half of 2016), mainly due to a sudden drop in sales in China.
PSA displayed a decline of 19.5% in China in the first half of 2016, while the Chinese market as a whole increased by 9% over this period. It seems that the range of PSA currently offered in China does not really match the local demand.
